When i plug my usb device in my panasonic 40 inch tv it comes up with an error saying power input too high, it works fine in our samsung tvs but not the panasonic one.

Its the same with our firestick it will only work if i have the firestick powered from the plug mains and not the usb in the tv the usb will not power the firestick

So i have a hard drive that has a usb cable that plugs into the tv and i need to be able to power this drive via a 240v plug then plug it into the tv. Is there some type of cable i can plug the usb drive into that has a y piece that then goes to the tv then the other side i can get the power from

If anyone has a link to what i need i would be very gratefull

Thanks

What version USB are you trying to use? 2.0 or 3.0?

What size usb are you trying to use?, certain devices will only take up to 32gb.

Mickey.

You can get powered USB hubs. These are useful if the device needs more power than the TV can provide through its USB socket.

Here is one on Amazon but there are lots of others. The power comes from the 240 volt adaptor.

It won't matter if it's 3.0 or 2.0, this is just the data speed. If the hub you get is 3.0 you will have it covered but 2.0 will be fine for a TV.

The usb device needs usb 3.0 but the tv only has usb 1.0 and 2.0 and it will not work in either of these

A 3.0 device will be backwards compatible so will work when connected to a 2.0 or lower device. But for future proofing a 3.0 hub and 3.0 leads will be ready if you upgrade the TV at some point.

It must be a fault with the tv as it works on other tvs with usb 2.0 outlets just not the panasonic tv ???

That's possible but more likely that the USB standards don't make it compulsory for manufacturers to provide all the power a connected device could need.

Have you looked on the back of the tv some have a powered usb the rest none power.

It'll probably be down to the amount of power the USB port on the TV can provide - we have a similar problem with a 1TB Samsung T5 portable drive. Our's works fine in a (pretty new) Samsung TV, but it doesn't work in our (older) LG TV, or via the Xbox or in the MH TV - I suspect the USB port on the newer Samsung TV has a higher power output than the others (its probably USB 3.0). From what I understand, a standard USB 2.2 port supplies 500 mA at 5 volts, whereas a USB 3.0 port can supply 900mA - which is why our SSD works fine from the laptop USB 3.0 port, but not the USB 2.0 ports on the TVs (the Samsung T5 SSD requires 800mA).

What are the power requirements of the devices you're trying to use?

It could be because the USB is not wired for power just data. I don't plug my Firestick in the TV USB because it draws higher current and gets warm in use, this would probably have repercussions and give me another problem so I use a separate port for this.

Yes only 2 ports and neither work, defo tv issue tried it in 3 samsung tv's and they all work it fine. Other usb sticks work but it wont run the hard drive box

Ordered a powered usb hub now as advised by DBK
