You must update your Google Chrome immediately to the latest version of the web browsing application.

Security researcher Clement Lecigne of Google's Threat Analysis Group discovered and reported a high severity vulnerability in Chrome late last month that could allow remote attackers to execute arbitrary code and take full control of the computers.

The vulnerability, assigned as CVE-2019-5786, affects the web browsing software for all major operating systems including Microsoft Windows, Apple macOS, and Linux.

Without revealing technical details of the vulnerability, the Chrome security team only says the issue is a use-after-free vulnerability in the FileReader component of the Chrome browser, which leads to remote code execution attacks.

What's more worrisome? Google warned that this zero-day RCE vulnerability is actively being exploited in the wild by attackers to target Chrome users.

UPDATE NOW!!!!

HOW!!
For the technically inept among us

If you are using Android on a mobile or tablet go to the Play Store app then click on the hamburger (three lines) icon in the top left then select My Apps and Games and I suggest select Update All or just scroll down to Chrome and update that only. Depending on Android version things may be slightly different so just follow your nose. *

If you are using Windows click on the three dots in the top right and click Update Chrome if you don't see this you are already on the latest version.

* Which reminds me of a joke I read today. Moses was the first person to download files from the cloud and store them on a tablet. :)

When in Chrome in most operating systems choose "about" and it should be apparent (y)

Thank you - we were on 119 too on several devices - thought Chrome updated when we close it & log out but presumably not.

Get a Chrome update when available
Normally updates happen in the background when you close and reopen your computer's browser. But if you haven't closed your browser in a while, you might see a pending update:

  1. On your computer, open Chrome.
  2. At the top right, look at More
    mR6ULZOdPFY5nzxPHdvC-7Rl5jDPqwBdfPDSVDg3DLnWBNGi-lVTXCsvUY7S1pYFFg=w18-h18
    .
  3. If an update is pending, the icon will be colored:
    • Green: An update's been available for 2 days.
    • Orange: An update's been available for 4 days.
    • Red: An update's been available for 7 days.
To update Google Chrome:

  1. On your computer, open Chrome.
  2. At the top right, click More
    mR6ULZOdPFY5nzxPHdvC-7Rl5jDPqwBdfPDSVDg3DLnWBNGi-lVTXCsvUY7S1pYFFg=w18-h18
    .
  3. Click Update Google Chrome. If you don't see this button, you're on the latest version.
  4. Click Relaunch.
The browser saves your opened tabs and windows and reopens them automatically when it restarts. If you'd prefer not to restart right away, click Not now. The next time you restart your browser, the update will be applied.

I don’t have a more at the top right on my iPad where the 3 dots are or an icon never mind a coloured one ? Neither Ralph on his laptop ? Any ideas in easy speak please .

If you go to Settings (3 dots top right hand corner) and click on About Chrome, it will tell you which version you have.

I couldn't find the update button either but it must be doing it automatically.

Bev, C;ick on the 3 dots and go down to help. Press about Google Chrome and it will tell you what version you are running. If its the same as above from @Gromett you are okay.

One iPad done and the laptop. Can't do my mini iPad as for some reason password is in Ralph's name and he can't remember it and I'm just goi g round in circles with it timing out. The apps haven't been updated in months n months on it for that reason. So as it's bugged me for months I'm wiping it clean . Starting afresh . Hope I've done the right thing !

Well I didn’t . I’ve now got a wipes clean iPad that’s attached to my phone by a blue swirling dot camera thing . But I’ve to finish off attaching it by signing in using Ralphs bloody password and it’s still going round in circles!
I give up . Haha

My ipad is on version 101 (rest as above) from a couple of weeks ago, and there doesn’t seem to be a later version.
