So for over 2 years now I had being using

At £9.49 for 4 litres and thought nothing of it other than its blue and smells like a caravan toilet.

Yesterday I ran out and was passing a Halfords store and nipped into to grab some as I was pretty sure they stocked it (well at least a different brand.

I ended up with

at £12.99 for 2 litres.

I thought its over priced but lasts months so never mind.

Anyway. 24hrs into using it the bathroom smells an absolute delight!

I had never really thought it smelt bad in there as I keep it super clean and tidy and flash wipe the surfaces and polish the mirror every time its used. But there was always a slight caravan toilet smell. I just put it down to the fact it is what it is.

But no.... This over priced blue liquid has a sort of perfume air freshener smell to it (not god awful magic tree type) and the bathroom really does have a gentle pleasant smell to it now.

Yes I think I have gotten over excited by blue liquid but anything that makes motorhome living nicer is a big plus.

I think I am a convert to spending more money on this stuff now.

As a pleasant alternative to any 'Blue' preparation, green materials are kinder to the environment but a few years ago I heard about using the jelly-like capsules used in washing machines, the green ones.
Not quite straightforward but very effective at leaving a pleasant smell and much cheaper than other methods. The only catch is that before using them for the first time, the cassette must be totally free of the blue chemical (or green).
I can honestly say that emptying the cassette produces no unpleasant odours any more. If there are unpleasant smells it is because remnants of chemicals have 'killed' the bio degradable sachet contents.

I've tried cheaper varieties and have concluded that you get what you pay for. That is, I might just as well have not bothered to use anything. I also found a thread somewhere from motorhomers who advocated the use of detergent capsules. Not good :eek:. So my last purchase was a 2L Thetford "Aqua Chem Blue". Worth the extra to protect my nasal sensitivities, I feel. And I can also leave the chemical toilet disposal point without feeling guilty about the dreadful smell I've left for the next unfortunate user. BTW, why is it mainly the male of the motor homing species who ends up dealing with the chemical toilet? (Not exclusively I hasten to add, before I become the butt of feminine wrath!). :)

I always try and use the Aqua Chem and I empty ours nearly every day and have done for the last 6 months. You can buy it in Spain but now travelling home and using one bought from Aldi a couple of years ago.

Thetford aqua kem blue also (literally) dissolves wipes (y)

We use the small sachets total less mess and no blue stains .
They are for sale at towsure and they have green tabs as well for the sites that only allow green .

You don't even need the good stuff - I'm a convert to this - no smells - not even the smell of chemical perfume.
The downside is that it's definitely not blue when you empty the cassette.

£1.00 for 5 sachets/cassette doses

Best to check whatever you use doesn't contain formaldehyde: it ain't good for people, the environment or septic tanks.

The old blue formulas always contained it, some of the the newer ones don't.

The green ones never did (as far as I know).

Bio wash liquid (as many will attest) actually works well as an alternative: the enzymes break down the waste and it contains a perfume too. And it's very cheap.

We use Thetford's Aqua Kem Blue and agree its good stuff but sometimes think we are paying top money when normally discharging the loo tank daily on most sites visited. Maybe worth the money if wild camping.

I have a mild perfume aversion, so the "pleasant smell" you like is not for me!

I always use Elsan Organic as it doesn't smell

I forgot to say the cassette has to be completely clear of any chemicals before you start to use Bio or yeast. The chemicals will kill the microbes and it wont work. You need to thoroughly clean it and don't ever use chemicals to clean the bowl for the same reason.

Try cleaning the bowl with pink spray bowl cleaner. Apart from leaving pink stains that we can’t shift the whole bathroom smells of sage and onion stuffing!

Don't use anything if I'm emptying it every day or two.
If it's going the 4 or 5 days I'll pop a laundry tab in.

That expensive blue crap is killing the environment.

We use the Thetford Aqua Kem Blue & Pink, the Green stuff is stored for when we are not allowed to use anything else.
We have it because its left over stocks from our last touring caravan, and I aint wasting money on anything else until its gone.
We have a roof vented SOG extraction system also, but what I really miss from the caravan is the ability to have a cistern tank that you add a cap of Pink stuff to, we now have to use it diluted in a trigger spray bottle, not the same as its more of a faff.
Lovely clean smelling WC though, clean & sterile I hope as well.
PS: I want a SOG unit fitted on our bogs at home now, I am so impressed with them.

Is this what we are talking about when saying C0F53064-60D1-413D-9F6B-BFD812696E70.png Bio wash liquid & laundry tab ? , fluid or powder for washing machines ? , for the liquid ones do you have to cut them open or do they desolve naturally ?
And is it only 1 for each empty, sorry but newbie question

We have used Aldi before but reading the thread didn’t realise they only work properly if the cassette is completely chemical free.
I always soak the whole thing inside and out in Radox we come home!

Throw them in they dissolve.

"BLUE"................ :crying: :swear2::swear2::swear2:

Every campsite owners nightmare, especially if they are on a septic tank or their own sewage system...

A complete suck out and try to reinstate the bacteria they work from..

Dont use BLUE if you are on any site with a septic tank .. Please..:pray2:

We use Aldi or Lidl laundry tabs. Found best to cut corner open before using. Use the pink in a spray bottle also.

I know nothing of all this hatred towards blue and the environment?

I was just under the impression it’s designed for purpose and that’s what I should be using?

Maybe I should research.

I do quite a bit of damage already burning an average 10tons of fuel a day at work

I use the Elsan Organic one as I don't find the smell from it overpowering and it seems to do it's job. Though I actually get through very little of it because if we are emptying every day then I don't bother.

What does bug me though is that although it's called organic and is in a green bottle the actual liquid is blue. I don't know why it bugs me - it just does.

I like the Elsan Organic too, but our's is definitely green

Apart from the environmental benefits I like that you can use it in the flush tank as well as the cassette so its one less bottle to carry around. We actually only use it in the flush tank, I stick a bio laundry tab or two in the cassette.....no idea if it works in conjunction with the organic stuff, but given that we're supposed to use organic for septic tanks then I guess it should do?

No blue, no green, no bio, no non bio, no tablets, no capsules, just nuffink. :gum:

The blue stuff works against nature by killing off all life to sterilize things, so if it ends up sterilizing septic tanks, waterways etc nature stops and nothing degrades as it should. It's like Monsanto-Bayer, busy fighting millions of years of natural processes.

The bio and green stuff works with nature to speed up the natural breakdown of waste products and so fits in with what the earth and all sewage treatment systems do.

This is why you need to flush any cassette or tank before changing over, else the remnants of the blue kills off the active biological ingredients and nothing good happens.
