I had a pm from a Funster about Widdy the cat who I mentioned having emergency treatment and operation in the NHS vs Private thread.

Widdy is fine, and has stopped wobbling. Stitches came out Tuesday and the vet told him how lucky he was as the Aorta and windpipe were exposed. He has he voice and appetite back, but looks a bit odd with his front all shaved. Vet still had no view on what had caused the injury but rat, badger, fox, another cat or barbed wire are all possibilities. Just over £750 all in for his treatment.

You can see how he is looking now. Telling me he is hungry again. :giggle:

Very sad to advise that I have just said goodbye to Widdy at the vets. He has not eaten for about four days and hadn't moved since last evening but has been drinking loads of water but try as I might, I could not tempt him with even the expensive foods and treats. His liver has packed up. I was warned that might be the side effect of the anaesthetic he had to deal with the above issue. He was about 16 and a half.

Sorry to hear of your loss Robin, it's a family member and hard to bear.
RIP Widdy.

To be fair, I really thought we would lose him when I saw the injury a few weeks back and am surprised they thought it was repairable. That all went very well, but anaesthetics with an old cat can cause all sorts of issues down the line. However, the initial recovery went so well. His brother doesn't seem to have missed him.

Sorry to read all this Robin & Hilary, always hard when you have to say goodbye to furry family. Janie & Bob xxx
