I have a Chausson Welcome top 58 on a Ducato which is Trigano plated at 4000kg with axle weights of axle 1, 2100kg and 2 ,2400kg.
Does anyone know if it would be possible to up plate this to 4500kg as a paper exercise as it would still be within the axle weight limits?
Please only answer if you are certain, as I know that this subject often leads to arguments. many thanks

I'd suggest you contact SV Tech, they're the professionals!

Check what weight your present wheels and tyres are rated at as that bigger step up in plating may well require new wheels and rubber all round, ours did and it was not cheap.

In theory yes you can but for a 4500 kg van you have a very low rear axle limit. To realistly be able to use the addition increase you will probably need to upgrade the rear axle to 2500 kg. This would involve fitting air suspension and higher rated tyres.

What are your current axle weights when fully loaded?

Axle 1,1610kg axle 2: 1880kg full of fuel and water 50% gas stuff for a weekend away and one fat driver

Give Gareth a call at SV Tech.
You will need front and rear axle as well as gross vehicle weight certificates. Your nearest weighbridge can sort that. Ours is Wellington and its £10 per weigh.
Whole thing will take you no more than a couple of weeks to sort.

Why do you want to up plate as your below 3500kg on those figures you have given ?
Because you can never have to much payload. It is plated at 4000kg. 2 similar sized friends going motorcycle racing 200kg, scooter 105kg, awning 30kg, beer 100kg ;) plus more clothes and bedding and food for three.
It soon adds up. i'd be happier to have more payload available. my wheels and tyres are ok. my tyres are good for 2.5t per axle.

For our heavy weight chassis Ducato we could:

The first option, to uprate to 3900kg, does not require any mechanical changes and the axle weights remain unchanged at 2100kg, 2400kg.

The second uprate option is to take the gross weight to 4500kg (max possible) with increased rear axle capability.

This uprate requires you have rear axle air assisted suspension fit

There are further uprate optiosn available with the second option subject to a change of tyre load rating to either 118 or 121.

With a 118 tyre – GVW to 4600kg, rear axle to 2600kg

With 121 tyres – GVW to 4700kg, rear axle to 2700kg

In my humble opinion you can never have to much payload. It soon gets eaten up if you like to tour for a month or so. (y)

Just looked at SV Tech's initial enquiry form regarding up plating, we are already upgraded from 3500, to 3650KG but there is another 225 KG available with air assist on the rear axle upgrade I believe, taking it from 2000 to 2225KG.
Yes we have the 16 inch wheels with the 225x75xR16 Tyres with 121 load rating already to do it.

Its Saturday night so I can't call them, though some of you might know the following answer.

SV Tech say they need a "Recent" weighbridge certificate.
Now this is probably a stupid question but what would you send up to SV Tech for their recommendations?

1. Empty out van completely, drain down tanks to 25% water, 50% Fuel,50% LPG, remove spare wheel in garage, one passenger (driver only) etc
Then get it weighed?
or
2. Load it up, with full tanks, Driver & Passenger, plus spare wheel, Fridge Freezer full, all the toys in the garage, so you are at the limit or over?
Option 2 would be good advice I know, having had it uprated, and before going away

But what do SV Tech expect to see on the WB cert, empty or full?.
Thanks
LES

I down plated mine recently, they just wanted a weighbridge report showing I had 400kg payload available. I did it full fuel and gas, no water, clothing, food or equipment, no driver. Individual axles added up to 2980kg, total came out at a spooky 3000kg. Seems the weighbridge was plus or minus 20kg as it was designed to weigh large gravel lorries. Down plate issued.

Up plated the last van they didn't need a weighbridge ticket, I think you only need one if down plating.

Thanks Guys
As per previous thread raised on here recently, all I have to do now is find a weighbridge, might have to make a day of it as there aint any near me anymore:cry: might also have to visit the gravel lorry place in Southampton as its nearer that Wellington Somerset, could do a few bags of sharp sand(y)
I bet Vosa can always find one when stopping us though:rolleyes:

I used:-

I used SV Tech when I upgraded after fitting Air Assist on the rear axle. All SCT requested was proof of the Air Assist fitting. I sent then the invoice and payment receipt from the company (Full Circle of Attlebrough Norfolk) who supplied and fitted the kit.
