I have found a scratch or probably a crack in the grp front cowling of my 11 year old Pilote coach built motor home .
Photos to illustrate.
Not aware of colliding with anything and no excess weight or dropped items from within in that vicinity.
It's above the drivers door RH drive.
Have been manoeuvring on camp sites with over hanging branches but only aware of twigs contacting the van.
Tried pressure on it can't detect a crack opening up but can detect scratch with fingernail so not so fine.
Do I assume its a crack and drill hole each end and fill. Or try and polish out?
Seen advice on here how to do both.
Just wondering if there is a simple test to indicate its a scratch.
Thanks for advice.

I dont know of a simple test. I would start by measuring the length then try polishing from one end. If it does polish out it should get shorter else you have a crack.

Good thinking thank you will try that.
On our way home from holiday so get to it next week.
Thanks

Good suggestion above but if it is fibreglass and a small crack I wouldn't worry about it unless it's a new van in warranty, and if anybody suggests drilling a small hole at either end "don't".

I was intending to drill to stop spread. Can you explain why it is a bad idea?
Thanks for the warning
