With all the talk of trackers over the last weeks I re-visited "trackers" on ebay. I now have:

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/CyberSpy-GT1-GPS-Vehicle-Car-Tracker-Caravan-Van-Fleet-Tracking-Device/183592412179?_trkparms=aid=111001&algo=REC.SEED&ao=1&asc=20160908105057&meid=343931263d644203a9f7244e619ec449&pid=100675&rk=3&rkt=15&sd=172352786343&itm=183592412179&_trksid=p2481888.c100675.m4236&_trkparms=pageci:24310bd1-0441-11e9-8c9e-74dbd180078d|parentrq:cb233df31670aad91eff4702fffb15e9|iid:1

£39 + £4 a month for the SIM and data. It seems to have gone down in price.

I've opened it up, made in Europe, superb little device.

I've only done one test run, but on screen is a map of my run of 30 miles and a graph of my speeds. This is accessed by the internet, just log on to their page and sign in.

No frills, you can't turn off the engine but when you find your van gone you will be able to tell the cops where it was heading.

It has bluetooth, not played with that yet. All configuration tools are on the maker's web site.

Just two wires to connect and hide it.

Looks good, Shame about the £48 annual subscription. My tracker was £13 and with the O2 sim is about 10p a year. Sounds like yours has more features though and would be suited more for fleet tracking.
It's a very crowded market with reliable units shipping from China for peanuts. Jim's will have to be good :)

I have the parts here to build my own ( cost £20 ) but since we decided to dash off sooner than expected this looked an immediate solution. The thing about the £4 a month is that it is cheaper in mainland Europe than me using GiffGaff and sending regular texts on position.

It's £4 a month, can be stopped at any time, so if chained up at home can cancel.

Haven't used mine in Europe yet but it uses tiny bits of data and displays on an app.
I suppose if it becomes expensive I could just switch it on when we're out of the van.

So you geo fence it then if the van moves outside that it texts you????
How easy to fit, does it have a perm live feed if so how much does it draw??

Yes seen the Geo fence mode mentioned on mine. It draws 27ma iirc

Check the Cellular technology that dedicated (cheap) trackers use. Most of the bargain offerings seem to operate on 2G networks. u-Switch is advising that broadband customers will no longer be able to use 2G and 3G platforms by 2020, as 4G and 5G become the industry standard. Looks as if some cheaper trackers may be being sold off before they become totally useless!
