We are picking up our daughter from Heathrow terminal 4 on Monday evening and are looking for a pub stopover /Cl to stop close by. I've seen one at Sunbury on Thames but we are over 3.5 tonnes and It seems that might be in the ULEZ zone. Does anyone know if Chertsey and other similar areas are affected.
Also any advice on a good stopover--we will be heading towards Abbeywood Campsite the next day.

The ULEZ is central London only. Sunbury (Spelthorne) is on the edge of the London LEZ zone, but outside it. If approching on the M3, DONT go further than Sunbury Cross, I think Junction 1. Chertsey and C&CC site at Walton are outside the zone

Thanks, I found a pub stop in Shepperton, he says we're fine and I don't think the journey between there and Heathrow goes further in. I'm under the impression that I'm OK with LEZ it's just ULEZ because we're over 3.5 tonnes.

try this pub

If I'm not mistaken abbeywood is in the lez zone

Sucoz you should be able to find all your info & maps on here, I was poking around on it the other day?

Karalal, Yes it is but I think we're OK with that it's being over 3.5 that means we're not OK with ULEZ- I believe Abbey Wood with be in ULEZ next October

I take our E5 truck into Shepperton Marina and Penton Hook regularly and know of guys with E4 trucks that don't have any issues with LEZ so you're fine out there.

Easy to get to Heathrow avoiding LEZ and M25 from Shepperton. Which Pub, I can't think of one off the top of my head which could take a motorhome

This ULEZ is a potential minefield IMO. Our motorhome is Euro5b which according to tfl is non compliant but if i input the registration to their website it tells me its compliant, it also tells me it is my responsibility for any errors in the information. Also is it fair that if you enter the ULEZ you pay for each 24 hour or part whether you use the vehicle or not. I fully support any sensible and fair efforts to reduce polution but this is just a cash cow.
Sorry to hijack this posting trust the OP finds suitable stopover.

I always overnight at Windsor castle coach park. Overnight for MH's behind office in overflow park. . payment in pound coins only & change machine is closed from 7pm on.
If you arrive after 7pm(?) it is £2,00 until midnight .
Midnight to 9am is free.
If you arrive earlier you pay the cost of parking from arrival time to 7pm + the £2,00

Here & it is 6pm(y)

It's the Barley Mow, I got it from 'search for sites' the landlord didn't know anything about it but said it wouldn't be busy Monday do we should be fine. However, gus-lopez has mentioned Windsor, so sounds a good option. Interested to know whether you are aware of the pub car park size?

Totally agree, we were in Swanley Kent a few weeks ago and there are 3.5 tonnes signs everywhere, got into a total panic we were already in the zone. I mentioned it to a stall holder he said ' oh they' re old don't take any notice ' how on earth are drivers supposed to know what's going on. Still not sure!

My niece & family are using our place this weekend while we are away. Phone call from them asking do they have to pay the congestion and ULEZ charge.
I said no to the ULEZ as I thought it was just larger vehicles and as they would be arriving after 6pm there would be no congestion charge.
They did a bit of research and they do have to pay the ULEZ charge. They are driving a 14 plate diesel car, I'm glad they checked as a fine would be payable. It's £12.50 to pay and if the were in time for the congestion charge that would have been another £12.50.
Must say I was very surprised about the ULEZ charge for their car.

Unless there has been a change the Spur road from the M4 into Heathrow Central area is part of the LEZ, although outside the main LEZ area, so you could not drive down that and I believe the tunnel into the C. Area is included, so even approaching along the A4 would not be possible. Check the LEZ map.

How do you propose to do the pick-up? You could not find anywhere to park an 'A' Class in the C. area.

My suggestion would be to park in the long-term CP in the Heathrow North area and take the shuttle bus to/from T4.

Pick-up with an 'A' Class at most airports is almost impossible - I speak from experience of Heathrow, Gatwick, Manchester, Luton as well as several French airports.

Yes ,no one paid any attention when Khan first brought it up & then offered it out for "consultation" . It appears only got offered to anyone who dealt with TFL . I got'consulted' as an account holder with registered foreign vehicles.
Some months later we then got the " overwhelming support for the new ULEZ " so this will be starting etc;etc;
When I asked how many had participated, what the % for & against was I failed to get a reply .Or the 2nd time.
When it was on the point of being started suddenly locals/papers ,etc; realised that anyone with a car older than 3 years would be paying 12,50/day. & started kicking up.Too late then. Anyone with any interest said from the outset what was going to happen but no one was interested , let alonemany locals.
Bolstered by his skill & cunning in manipulating the 'consultation' he then did the same with extending & tightening the original LEZ.

I just pick up/drop off at the departures when wife & daughters go to Aussie.

Hi Geoff, yes planning to park in the long stay, which is free for 2 hours and get the shuttle bus, as you suggest.

Drop off at departures is OK, but last time I did it at N. Terminal Gatwick Departures a warden was quickly on my case because he thought that I had stopped to pick-up. Just at that moment Basia was exiting the MH with suitcase in hand, so he had to turn tail, but if it were to pick-up there could have been trouble and maybe a fine because it says drop-off only.

Maybe easier in Spain

You have it sussed already.

I did not know about 2 hours free - maybe they introduced that to persuade traffic not to go into the C. Area. I must enquire whether it applies to Gatwick, as the two airports are separately owned now. I also do not know what has happened to my parking privileges as a BAA Pensioner now that BAA has been split up. Used to be free.

Geoff

Considering all options atm, may end up at the ostrich mentioned by 2bob, making a note of all suggestions on our map for future use. Thanks for the input.

I picked up there as well. Handy with foreign plates:giggler: Yes it is easier in spain but Alicante departures has been ruined by the 'won't pay/park' in multi story for arrivals ( nowhere else) & the car hire drop off pick up companies.

Le Bourget has height barriers on the drop-off, except the bus/coach lane and the long-term is a 3/4km hike.

Bergerac was still OK, as are Krakow and Katowice so far.

Bit sad that a MHomer has to be so versed on airports, but it is the family commitments that dictate it.

Approach to pub is along Watersplash Road, a residential street with cars parked both sides making large sections single file. Entrance to pub car park isn't particularly wide, and maneuvering in car park could be a bit difficult if cars were parked there. I'd think twice about taking my Hymer exsis-i 626 down there.
Having said that it's a great pub with a terrific reputation for food, real ales and music.

Why don't you use Street View to have a look?

All changed now anyway, we are house sitting and the people were due back tomorrow but they're not allowed on the boat with their dog as it needs tapeworm tablets. We are now driving from Lymington to Heathrow and back again for one night.
