Hi everyone,

We are currently on a two month tour Spain, the front tyres on the van have more than enough on them to get us home, but will need to be replaced fairly soon upon our return. I was just wondering if anyone has replaced tyres in Spain and if it was cheaper than the UK, if they are less money here, I could replace them before heading home. Has anyone any experience of tyre costs in Spain and ease of getting replacements. Many thanks.

I had two rear fitted in France then two front in Spain a week later, from what I’m told I’ve paid quite I bit more than I would in the uk. 15’s camper van tyres, agilis about €350 for 2 in Spain from memory. I think similar price in France.

Thank you both, we have a panel van conversion, it was supplied with ContiVan tyres, so normal commercial van tyres, rather than the strengthened tyres we had on our previous coach built. But from what you have said there is no real cost benefit, so Ill just keep an eye on them and unless I get to about 2mm they can wait until we are home. I am on about 4mm at the mo, so should be more than enough for the trip.

I went to Euromaster and they took a tyre off, then said I needed Two new ones (law in Spain is that you must have the same tyre make, model and age in the same axle).

That makes sense, but I was going to use my spare and get a cheap tyre as an emergency for my spare. it was UK registered at the time so UK rules applied.

We agreed a price for a Nankang to ordered. My wife was going to go back to get the tyre, but I insisted on going with her.

The €80 agreed suddenly became €110. I argued with the manager who had requested cash. He insisted it was €110. I suggested he turn his note pad over where he had written €80 and there it was.

I paid the €80 by card. The tyre wasn’t even a Nankang. Some cheaper Chinese alternative like “Nolivelong” or similar.

I have avoided them since

Make sure you agree what you want and the prices before you let them take a jack to the vehicle.

I am very fussy about tyres and have quite a bit of knowledge of them. I’ve run small fleets cars & vans, still do.

You need to know what you want and the prices. I use several tyre places in the UK and have a good relationship with them. I buy tyres wholesale sometimes and get the fitters to do the rest.

It’s not so straightforward in Spain, it’s hard to get fitters to fit your own tyres (which is understandable if you don’t have any agreement or regular business with them). There are lots of different regulations in Spain too. Not a problem for me. As apart from the aforementioned story with euromaster, I usually adhere to the Spanish regulations anyway.
