Had to pump the tyres up today, knackered my pump but thanks to another thread, a new one is about to be ordered.

The lock nuts on the Tyrepal were an absolute pain! So much so, I haven’t bothered putting them back on.

Anyone had any nicked?

That aside I do think it’s a great product!

The nuts are a right pain in the arse arnt they.

I thought the nuts were to stop them coming off on their own.
Or loosening allowing some deflation.

Oh S£&t! Are they?

I did think that as I took them off but optimistically thought, nah. ??‍♂️?

The nuts are ok it's the useless spanner they give you.

I did think I could have done a better job with a hammer and a house brick! Not exactly angled well are they?

I misslaid mine once so ground out an ordinary spanner to fit (strange size nut) would have been perfect it had a bend in it.

Is it not a 13 mm spanner?

It’s definitely a standard metric size.

Get a cheap spanner, put in vice and bend it a bit.
That’s what I did ?

It did cross my mind to sort a spanner out, the wheel trim blocks access a bit but are cable tied on so can’t be bothered to take them off.

Hence I just put the sensors back without.

Yep I have that trouble too.

Without the locknut it could come loose and allow air out.

Anyone actually had this issue? I thought they were anti theft, not for keeping the sensors on. I may have cold numb hands again tomorrow. ?

The nuts are better than the first set i had... older style with a very small allan key bolt, that was really fiddly.
Think they might come off without the nut fitted btw.

Bugger!

Cold numb hands tomorrow it is.

They‘re under pressure because they depress the valve in order to read the psi, unlike ordinary valve caps that are just dust covers.
I would think the lock nuts are to keep them in place aswell.

I spoke to Tyrepal about this. Was told the locknut was only there as an anti-theft device....not to prevent the sensor coming off of it's own accord. The sensor won't come off if screwed down firmly.

I now don't bother with the locknut.....but do use the rubber gaiter.

PS. The only advantage of the locknut......it prevents the garage messing around with the tyre pressures when in for a sevice :ROFLMAO:

Don't use the locknuts, pain in the butt. Never had one come loose on cars or mh and never had one nicked either. Lets face it without head unit they are useless to a thief. I do fit the rubber shields. Also never had one of the older allen keys ones come loose either.

Brill! Looks like I might be okay.

If one does ping off I will update the thread.

We had TyrePal on both the MH and Yvette's car.
Her car developed a porous alloy wheel which needed topping up a couple of times a week. After a very short time I got cheesed off with faffing about with the poxy lock nut and never used it again. Her new car has a factory fitted TMS.
When we put new wheels on the MH, I transferred the TyrePal's from the old wheels less the locking nuts and have had no undoing or leak from the TyrePal's, so I have spares lock nuts if any of you out there need any.

Thread revival lol.
Just wondering if anyone has encountered any further issues due to using the sensors without the locknuts?
Mine hadn't been removed for over a year and the locknuts were very difficult to loosen.
I am considering refitting them without the locknuts.

Get a cheap 13mm spanner from poundland and put a bend in it much easier than the stupid spanner they give you.
Also we have steel wheels I got fed up with removing the wheel trims to get at the nuts so I fitted short valve extenders.

How much do you think a spanner would be in Poundland 😂

I stopped using the locknuts long ago, I still like to use a quality pressure gauge now and again to double check, never had them come loose..

Surly if you left the lock nut off and the tyre deflated, assuming slowly, the sensor would sound and you could check it for tightness or puncture.

On my second set of tyrepal. The first set had the grubscrew which I used once the discarded as too much trouble. The current set have the locknut which I haven't bothered with either. Never had one loosen on its own, and why would anyone want to nick them, they're not much use on their own.

Sorry to say I still haven’t got round to fitting my solar Tyrepal system after buying it 2 years ago.
I hesitated after reading that it could let air out of the tyres and posts about how awkward it is to top up with air if fitted.
I already struggle to connect the airline without removing the wheel trims and, now that the latter are restrained with cable ties, I’m even less likely to remove the trims.
I believe that I should fit them but would need to start from scratch with researching how to fit them. I watched a utube on how to do it but that was from the maker and I recall some criticism that it wasn’t as easy as the video suggested.
