My tyres are 225/65 R16 which is stated in the handbook. How do I find out the load rating I need ?

I think the calc is max load on axle (from weight plate) divided by 20 - that's how it worked out for my rear axle but someone else is sure to know.

Look at you axle weights and half it (to indicate load on each wheel) then using this website look up the load rating required:

Use the tables, don't think dividing by 20 comes into it.

At least I see where the '20' came for my tyres - complete co-incidence! Rear axle max is 2240 so that's 1120 per wheel so I need 112 tyres!

I think you are supposed to have 10% safety margin

My rear axle Max is 2000Kgs and I was on tyres rated at 1030Kgs. each

Even to the detriment of fuel economy, (slight change of gear ratios) I went up a width to 225 so that I could have a bigger safety margin.
When coming off some of the 'sleeping Policemen' in France it was like dropping off the end of the World with a corresponding increase in load, especially on the rear tyres

I am considering doing the same. Do you know what rim width you have? Mine are only 16" 4.5J

Mine were 215 x 75 x 15. I 'upped' the width to 225 x 75 x 15. That's why the gearing changed (at the wheels because the depth of the tyre at 75% of the width increased the circumference slightly.
I've had a look at Oponeo and they don't have a rim @ 4.5J on a 16"

Thanks. I will check my rim size. I have 195/75 x 16 at present. Probably 205/xx will give me an increased load rating. Hankook in my present size are rated at 110 but that does net give me any margin with my rear axle loading of 2000 kg.

Emmit I made a slight error. My rims are 5.5J R16 but it seems that I will have to increase tyre width to 225 to increase significantly the load rating and that may not be possible on 5.5J.

Flamenca changing the tyres to a higher rating may not be all you need to do. You may have to add air suspension to increase the axle loading.
You should give Sctech a call they will advise you.

I'll be back when SWMBO finishes with the computer.

I have air suspension on the back axle and that provides a rating of 2000 kg. I have already been through the 'uprating' process and have all the relevant documentation. Although my rear tyres are technically OK for the load I want more margin just like Emmit does.

How about this for info.

Slight correction to my original uprate. My tyres are 225 x 70 x 15 and not 75 as previously stated.
What have you got at the mo?

Brilliant. Thanks. Seems that I can only increase the width to 215/75 R16 and that only increases the load rating on Hankook to 114. Better than 110 but I will look at other manufacturers tyre of that size. Thanks again.

Are you sure about 4.5J? Our 2014 B544 is on 6J 15”.
I made a mistake. Mine are 5.5J on 16". Apparently the 16" wheel version has a higher chassis rating and larger front brake disks.

Flamenca If you uprate to 114 you will be well above 2000Kgs on the rear axle.
From memory my 112 rated tyres are rated at 1130Kgs. A 114 tyre must give you a very safe margin on a back axle rated at 2000Kgs
