I'm looking for a good tyre inflator bought 2 off Halfords with the screw on adapter to the tyre, and by the time i have screwed it up i have lost half the air.
I need one that pumps the tyres up to 100psi easily.(i need 70psi)
The ones i have bought say they will do that but struggle after 65psi
Also a long enough electric lead from the cigar lighter to the rear tyres.

A cordless one does away with the long lead requirement.
I use this one
With a screw on to clip on adaptor that was a couple of quid from amazon.

Hi
I am looking for a decent tyre inflator also. I too have bought 2 inflators, one that has a cigarette lighter plug and one which is combination 12v and 240v. I thought the 240v one was going to solve all my Motorhome inflation problems, but alas although it does work, it takes ages for the tyre to inflate just .5 of a bar!

My motorhome weighs 4.5 tonne, can anyone recommend a portable or a Workshop type compressor that will easily and quickly inflate my van tyres. I've read that the RAC one is ok, anyone have one and can comment?
Thanks

Hi
The RAC Ring 900 is a very good inflator. It has battery clips instead of a cigar lighter plug.
It will inflate up to 100 psi so it will do what you want easily. I have had one for quite a few
years. I forget the price but I donā€™t remember it being expensive.

How about an off-the-wall suggestion? What about carrying a divers air bottle? I've just thought of it so haven't investigated but they're light weight, available in various sizes, cheap to fill, and contain a lot of air. I'm going to look into the idea. šŸ¤Æ

I used a dive bottle when travelling through the desert in Oman with a Landrover Discovery, a large 15 litre bottle at 200 psi would fill the tyres about 3 times after deflation for sand driving. Useful for topping up, but takes up a lot of space and awkward to refill especially in the desert! Would fill tyres up on two vehicles faster than a 12 volt inflator would fill one tyre

Having blown a couple of fuses, nearly burned out the motor on the Fiat fix and go kit, and found my standard car inflator wasnā€™t up to the job I tried my bicycle floor pump https://www.decathlon.co.uk/900-floor-pump-red-id_8385190.html This works great and is easy to store when travelling. Agree it is no use when inflating tyres from flat but it is certainly useful when used for routine tyre pressure checking when you maybe only need to top tyres up by a few psi. From memory it is 40 pumps per psi on 15 inch wheels (but donā€™t quote me on that). Added benefit of an upper body workout

Bicycle floor pump for me too. The fiat pump broke, mechanically the crank snapped. Before it did it blew the cigarette lighter fuse.
Now the floor pump does it. Usually only raising a few psi except when laying van up when I pump the front tyres to 75. Yes its exercise but currently pump of choice for me.

Most inflators struggle over 60psi. In the end I found this Ā£33 one (search KATSU Tools 451717 on Amazon)
513f5TyirVL._AC_.jpg
Amazon product ASIN B00X8JHEWM which is a double piston one, and which definitely keeps shoving air in over 60psi. It says 30 amp and certainly it pulls a big current. I had to add longer cable (heavy), a clip-on valve connector (otherwise too much air lost on disconnection) and for good measure a 30A inline fuse. I would not use one which plugs into the cig lighter - risk of blowing fuses.

I bought the same one and it copes well with the 80psi required for our rear tyres. Supposedly goes up to 125psi.
I was sceptical that a battery powered inflator would be adequate, but touch wood, it's working well. Also, do buy the adaptor recommended. It allows to get the thing on and off the tyre valve quickly.

Why not call in to your local Machine Mart / Tool Station / Screwfix
plenty of choices, of hobby compressors,
which can then be used for other jobs at house/garage,
vacuum cleaner filters blown clean etc,
as well as cleaning out the lawnmower carburettor
good luck with the browsing

Have you ever picked up a Divers air cylinder, I use one as a diver and also to charge my Air Rifles, the cost of a cylinder plus the size/weight and safety issue of carrying a 300bar pressured bottle around make it totally impracticable.

Are you sure it was filled to 200psi. I'm thinking it might have been 200bar. which is a whole lot more air that 200psi.

The Ring 900 I currently use is brilliant value and inflates fast to over 80 psi / 5 Bar. I've had 2 other 12v tyre compressors and one blew up and the other blew fuses.

Like any air compressor it gets very hot so if you want it to last, let it cool down a bit between each tyre inflation.

I recently got this one, works a treat though the quality seems pretty rubbish, it does work and quickly.

I couldnā€™t justify the ring for the use it gets. I might regret that when in breaks mind....

Ditto,
A 15 Ltr cylinder would need to be restrained to something seriously solid, if it starts rolling down the van it will probably kill you in a crash and that's before it explosively de-pressurises!

I know of one dive shop owner who forgot to turn off the compressor whilst filling a 3 ltr pony bottle,
he spent the next two days scraping his dog off the ceiling!

They also require regular testing or dive shops will refuse to fill them, and buying cheap second hand ones could fail due to rusting inside.

I have the von haus inflator also, and it's a doddle.

It sounds a good idea until you look into it,
however if you're going diving anyway.....

yup,

14.7 psi= 1 bar

Correct in your conversion, so a cylinder filled to 200psi would only have 13.6bar pressure. A cylinder filled at a dive shop would usually be filled to 210bar.
A 12ltr Cylinder filled to 200bar would last me at an average depth of 15mtrs 70mins with a 3 min safety stop at 5 mtrs, coming up 50 bar.
Never needed a 15ltr cylinder too big and heavy and don't see the point of coming up with 110 bar left.

As I said I'd done no research. If they're heavy (unless under water šŸ˜) they won't be much use. They should be safe though - people wear them on their backs
