Can anyone recommend a stop about two hours from Calais in the direction of Colmar please ?
I'd looked at Han-sur- Lesse recommend in the Ancona thread but it's a bit far, prefer something closer.
Thanks

Not directly on the main route, but perhaps one to think of if you want to make a bit of a detour and experience something different. Epernay has a good local authority site, and you might be able to fit in a champagne house tour. No use if your just making miles to get directly to Colmar, but just an idea.

We've stopped there quite a few times! first stop after Cite Europe, you can cycle up to the boat lift.First time our sat nav sent us a round about way so we found a more direct way.
Going past Mons on the E42 leave at the Thieu services, turn 1st right at the top of the bank down the slope, round the bends and turn left onto the Rue des Hautes bois which drops you down into Thieu.

We stayed at the aire at Peruwelz in Belgium. Nice spot on the canal.

Agreed! Nice stop at Thieu.
Free, no services but there is a good general store in the village for bread etc.
Good cycling along the old canal to see the original boat lifts, then back along the new stretch to look at the awesome new lift. A brilliant and impressive piece of engineering.

Richard.

Try Peruwelz, a nice quiet stop alongside the canal

Latitude : (Nord) 50.51917° Décimaux ou 50° 31′ 9′′
Longitude : (Est) 3.60833° Décimaux ou 3° 36′ 29′′

Funnily enough I`d seen this one and thought it sounded ok so that`ll probably do.
Thanks
Yeah, look nice, on the water's edge, and free.

If your interested in boat lifts and canal engineering there's the longest inclined plane in the world at Ronquieres not far away......unless the Chinese have built one recently!
