Bergues is fantastic no services but a great place to stay, easy walks to town and great walks round the old town walls

+ another one for Bergues

Or as an an alternative, if you could squeeze in another 27 miles further than BERGUES, you could book this place and know you had a pitch when you arrive?......

The "paid" Aire at Ypres.

Seems to be a long time since this place was mentioned, so worth an airing. Very handy for the Menin Gate 'Last Post' ceremony.

Have a good trip(y)

Menin gate last post was sounded thru out lockdown with no public attendance , not sure if public allowed to gather , yet ?

I thought I read Gravelines had had a few issues with bikes being stolen and a few people wandering about or has it been ok this year

Think it only happened once. We've stopped there several times with no problem but if you're going to strap a very expensive bike on the back you're going to attract attention.

I don't strap an expensive bike to the back but do have a motorbike on a trailer

Im pretty alarmed up and security chains you cant axle grind

But that Aire is close to the sea and is it to close for the migrants etc

I always stay at Bergues. If you're one of these folk I have heard of who travel without a full water tank, be warned Bergues has no water or emptying facilities. There are large poubelles at the lower end though.
There is a pleasant area where the dogs can run and a good walk around the fortifications, which are complete around the town.

Bergues. No brainer.

Hondschoote for even more p and q

Bergues. Nice deli in town with good cheese.

Short cut into town is path between the two geese/duck ponds and through a doorway in the walls, not seen till you get there, but can be spotted when arriving at the Aire.
