chausson welcome
My Trumatic 3002s heater...augh! So...I took it all apart and bench tested it. The thermocouple worked ok, the pilot was good, when I let the rod go it fired up fine...so why the cold feet you may well ask?!? So I rebuilt the heater and re-installed it and the damn thing wouldn't lite........
So I repeated all with the same result so I'm searching for some insight. Checked the flue, it's ok.
I light the pilot with the pitzo button...it lights...hold down the gas for between 20-90 seconds...let go and it may pop a little.or it may light for a few seconds...then, cold feet! Any ideas you may have I would appreciate. I live in France so to find a 'gas expert' is difficult. cheers

The fault is the thermocouple - or more likely the way the flame strikes it.

You should be able to test the thermocouple either with a drop out tester if available or with a multimeter it should measure about 16 mill volts

Thanks all, I've tested the thermocouple and the tip is just in the blue pilot light flame. I tried a brand new thermocouple last week which worked as well (its too long)It seems to be the problem is between the changeover from pilot light to main jet. It seems to splutter and then blow itself out. I can hear the main jet of gas which shuts down when the gas cut-off clicks in about 15 seconds later...
Thanks for your help. I've been trying to solve this for weeks!

thermocouple or air in the gas feed pipe. It lights then "pops" and goes out. Hold the valve down longer to purge and make sure the pipe is not kinked and you get full pressure on the hob

Could be the burner jet is partially blocked, only allowing a little bit of gas through, causing a weak mixture that won't sustain ?
Have you checked the jet at all ?
