In my PVC I have a truma combi the question for me was this really the great improvement over the old cascade and blown air heaters back in the 90's.
My son currently has a very old lunar with the old system, the reason I'm asking is the Truma I have will not heat accommodation on electric without water in it with water either on gas or electric I lose heating efficiency to 10 liters of cold water before accommodation starts heating and I am beginning to be suspicious its not as economical on gas as my sons old cascade. whats your views folks

All Truma Combo's for about the last 15 years have been able to run the heating without water in the boiler. Can't see why you would want to.
What model Combi do you have?

I'll check the model Lenny I thought it was supposed to run on electric without water for accommodation heating only as it does on gas, but seeing as we are at home had the van on electric put heating on and after a short time control panel started flashing w17e and looking in manual it said no water in the tank, think its a combi 4 unit

That is the current version should work without water, looks like you have a fault.

Have had 2 vans with the Combi and both of them could have heating without hot water. Ours had 2 controls, 1 to select energy source(ie, gas, electric or both) and the other to select heating, hot water or heating plus hot water, with the option of 40c or 60c . Are you sure you are not selecting heater plus hot water instead of heating only?

As he it getting error messages that implies he has the CP plus controller.

C6002 heating works without water in the boiler.

Ok folks I have a combi E CP plus ready and have just started up on electric heating habitation only and at the moment seems to be working. Instructions state it can be used with or without water depending on setting so I'm not sure if that means with water in the tank but not set for heating or if its ok to run heating with tank dry I think a phone call to truma is in order Monday morning to clarify, thanks very much for your replys and information been very helpful and I suspect Lenny is right and it should heat habitation without water

I think that I have the same system and the same problem. My manual says it has two modes: "Hot Water" and "Heating and Hot Water". It also says "The interior can be heated with or without water"

Please let us know if you get any answers from Truma

Yes please keep us informed, I want to keep the van ready to go and heating would be advantageous. It already very cold in there and I am moving bedding out , Even considering bring cushions in but that would mean Galahad (rocking horse) would loose his under stairs stable. He is one of the few things that get amnesty from the 6 month rule.

I will let you all know how I get on one of the possible cause of the error code according to my mate who has the same system is the fact I had the fan set on eco setting which according to friend is not fast enough when you set electric 2 causing an overheat error w17e will find out for sure tomorrow

How stupid is this then.

that seems to work in with my reading of their destructions Lenny you can heat the habitation without having the water heating setting on but there must be water in the tank or you risk an overheat error will make sure tomorrow when I give truma a ring

Crazy when they state in the instructions you can run the heating without any water in the boiler.

true lenny although it does seem to work ok on gas when empty

having tried to speak to Truma directly i have been refereed back to a local agent who is again inconclusive it seems it is supposed to work on electric without water in the tank but in reality it seems it will very often come up with a lack of water overheat error so the agent said try it on lowest electric with fan on full, then on full electric fan on full, and if it cuts out with the error code you will need to keep water in it, well after experimenting my heater will indeed run on leccy on lowest setting with fan on high and will run for about 20 mins on full leccy before throwing a wobbley it also stops on the low setting if fan is not set on high

Thanks for the update
My van is a lot older than yours and does not have 'error' message but thanks for the update I will keep playing /experimenting
