On my Hymer MLi 580 on a MB chassis. the entrance step is playing up and I am stumped as to what it is. I removed the motor and it is working , the step goes up and straight down again setting off the buzzer. I have checked to bi contact switch and it is working alright, sometime the step is perfectly fine and then without warning it will drop. If it is down ,I can physically lift the step itself, gently up,push back and press the front into the locked up position. Drive off and sometime it will suddenly come alive and drop down, at any time it feels like.
When it was working properly it only needed touch on the switch and it worked both up and down, holding the switch powers it up but release the switch and down it goes. The switch has tiny little contacts so i think there must be a relay somewhere to cope with the current draw. The motor is the same as a ducato wiper motor which it is. They work off being powered permanently live and being earthed to work. Does anybody know where the relay is hidden in amongst the kitchen furniture? The second up switch works but brings it up and when released it drop again. To get the step up with power the switch must be held but as soon as released it drops.
the trouble with motorhomes is everything is hidden behind something so you need to know where to find things or ask somebody who knows because they have had the same problems.

Turns out it is the relay and it is under the drawer under the oven, I ordered another from Brownhills for £79.

£79 for a relay?? Is it gold plated or something amazingly complicate? Do you have a photo or a spec.
Our relay, a few years ago, for a CI was over a ton if I paid cash.

Luckily we have electronic engineering students where I work and it cost 6 bottles of home made wine
