The gas only Truma 4 with no electrical elements is working fine however after some hours without EHU running on the leisure batteries during the evening when the TV is on and other services the leisure battery voltage drops to such a level which triggers the Truma 4 to shut down. Not too sure at what voltage the Truma 4 protection cct comes in so if anyone knows this it will be helpful. The spec. of the boiler is 6.5 amps for short periods and 1.2 amps average. So with 6.5 amps being pulled for short periods when the leisure battery is getting low the volt drop will initiate the Truma protection circuit.
To remedy this I considered running heavier duty wire to the Truma or even having a separate 100Ah battery with a break before make switch. The other option I have been considering is fitting a buck boost converter which will maintain the output voltage at 13 volts even when the input the voltage is dropping below 12 volts. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/40353184...d=link&campid=5338547443&toolid=20001&mkevt=1

it is supposedly a 400 watt device at 15 amps which may require a larger heatsink. Any thoughts or input appreciated.

We had a similar issue when watching tv and having heating on during winter periods with little solar. Remedy Jackery power pack which runs tv so leisure battery can run heating.

a second battery is the best solution it wouldnt need to be dedicated to the heater just added to the existing will double your capacity. you need to think about how you put the energy back into the battery you dont say if you have solar
with100 amps of usable battery and 180w of solar we are pretty much self suficent in summer and good for 4/5 days in winter

thanks for the input. We do have two 100 watt solar panels feeding a MPPT charger with two 100 Ah batteries. Solar charging in Scotland winter time is as much use as a chocolate fireguard. Maybe our batteries are getting tired.
As suggested keeping the leisure batteries just for heating then powering the TV independently is the way to go.
Thanks

If your battery can’t run the heating, it is likely knackered. It should easily be able to run it for a couple of days after being fully charged.

How old is the battery?

It does sound like it’s broken.

Both 100 Ah Exide batteries. One is four years old whilst the second is three years old. Certainly looking like tired batteries then. atb
