With the increase in fuel, just having a rethink about my route from Calais to Metz for an overnight stop. Intended to travel down on the motorway and suck for the tolls through France, but now looking at possibly heading across to Belgium down the A10, A4 and A31 to Metz.
Any thoughts or other suggestions. Driving an 8 mtr, 4.2t motorhome

Many thanks in anticipation

Luxembourg diesel approx 10p/ 19p per litre cheaper

We travelled via Bastogne and Luxembourg to Metz.
Bastogne because I wanted to see the Battle of the Bulge sights and Lux because I’ve never been and wanted to tick it off my list and fill up with cheap fuel.
One bonus for you if you’re wanting to save on fuel costs.
We have a 5200kg 9m tag axle and had no probs whatsoever.
Stayed on the municipal site in Metz next to the river. There’s an aire at the entrance but it was tight access due to cars parking at entrance and exit.

Check your fillings after using Belgium roads, they might have rattled loose ?

weve used the free route to metz via luxembourg and the roads were fine weve stayed on the municipal in summer and the aire in winter both fine

Always go that way if heading down the east side. Good motorway all the way and no tolls. Belgian motorways used to be bad for potholes but theyve done a lot of work on them, they are not as good as the best French ones but probably better than UK motorways or the A16 in France.

Hi all, interested in using this route (A10, A4 and A31 to Metz) in future. I'm having trouble finding the A routes on Google maps because it seems to favour E numbers. Following the route back from Metz, I can see A31 and A4 bit for the life of me I can't find A10 (I can find every road number but, it seems).

Is this the route we're taking about? https://goo.gl/maps/fWCaYuEHoSerwWgw9

Many thanks.

Yes thats the main route down to Metz via Luxembourgh. Hans Sur Lesse is a good stopover if you want one on the way down.
