Since never. I've been a lightweight tent camper for the last 45 years.
I've got an Irish passport my wife has a British passport, we intend travelling in the Schengen zone for a lot longer than 3 months which shouldn't pose a problem as she'll get the same travel rights as me. My question is, what happens when we arrive at an EU border or attempt to leave with her having potentially overstayed?

From my understanding the uk passport should not be stamped. You try telling that to the border official

A great question, one that we discussed a while back, although no stamp should be applied to the Irish passport, it might be a good idea to insist on one....this would be evidence that you were travelling together, however if your wife travelled independently after you trip together, this could throw up some complications, this is my understanding.

The link is to the Border Guard Operational Manual and Sec 2.1.2 at the foot of Page 17 et seq explains the process with examples

Thank you for posting this. Worth printing off and keeping it with other documentation. (y)

I’m married to an Eire citizen and we live in the U.K. Would having a U.K. registered vehicle have any additional bearing on length of Euroland stay or is it irrelevant?

I have the Manual stored on my laptop and phone! The car registration has no bearing as far as I'm aware; more relevant will be the ability to prove the relationship between the Irish Passport holder [my wife], and me, plus the joint travel arrangements, so Birth & Marriage Certificates, Passports, and Travel Tickets to show that the trip is a Bona Fide arrangement, and not some scam or circumvention attempt.

I work on the simple principle that the more tangible evidence that I can produce quickly and methodically, the more likely it is that we will be processed quickly and allowed on our way, rather than being delayed whilst verification is requested

Was hoping to test this theory out next week but have had to postpone the trip because of an ECU airbag fault caused by a duff new vehicle battery being fitted; I only decided to change the ageing original battery to reduce the risk of an ECU airbag fault ... Sometimes the ultra cautious approach doesn't work!

Real life experience here - my UK passport has just been stamped, travelling with Colin who holds an Irish Passport. 😲 even though I argued (politly) with the border guard that is should not be.

We’re not sure when the time comes to return to the uk from Gib whether to have our passports entry stamped at La Linea and use up the few days it takes us to get to Santander or to enter Schengen using our Gib ID cards which to date have allowed us wave-throughs on our numerous trips into Spain.
I am not convinced that Schengen authorities away from the Gib/Spain border ie Santander, will be au-fait with the special Gib dispensations currently in force and pending final Brexit relating agreement.

The Border Guard Technical Manual Sec 2.8 covers the operation, but refers only to the need to have a passport or ID Card. There is no reference to stamping of passports that I can see, but that is perhaps a feature of the new Entry/Exit System? Might be worth asking the question at the next Border about the monitoring of stays, because none of your 90 days should have been used during the joint travel arrangement.
