Looking at travel insurance for upcoming 3 or 4 month trip around Europe. Annual multi trip insurance seems to be limited to 30 / 45 day trips which is not long enough. Single trip insurance covers such things as flight cancellations, baggage loss etc. None of which we need.

Can anyone recommend an insurer / policy specifically for motor homes.

Thanks.

We use Staysure annual multi trip, limited to 50 days but you can extend to 100 at a cost, 183 days in a year coverage. You get 15 months for price of 12 and very good service (never claimed luckily)

We also use Staysure, though we do fly abroad as well as using the van.

We have an annual policy, primarily intended to provide us with medical cover, although it does also include the more traditional stuff as well. (y)

We use 12 months cover from Avanti, covers pre existing medical conditions and can be extended past the 45 days with additional premium.

I'm going with Saga - cheaper for my medical issues.

Thank you all for the suggestions. Seem to be plenty of satisfied Staysure customers on here. Looks like I have some reading to do now! :thanks3:

We took out travel insurance with LV. Don't forget to check them out when doing your research.

The trouble with break down cover is until you require their services it’s only then you find out how good they are, having broken down twice in the last 30y while tugging the first when the cam belt failed on our A6 in France cover was by the RAC, I spent days trying to get them to repatriate the car back to the UK for repair but they insisted on having it repaired locally, it cost thousands and not only did it cause me to be late back to work the car was never the same with starting faults and smoking issues, it’s hard to get follow up warranty from another country, the second time involved a gear box failure on a Sorento again in France with Red Pennant this time, no issues this time a replacement vehicle was with me within 2 days and the Sori trailered back to the UK.

Struggled to find sensibly priced travel insurance the big stumbling block is my wife who is 81 but with no medical issues I am in my 70’s we alway used the C&CC but since dissolving their European Travel Service they no longer provide travel insurance. Trawling for quotes multi trip cover is a no no most restricting trips to 28/29 days and some of the single trip quotes for 80 days were truly breath taking. On the recommendations of others we went for Staysure £380 for 80 days by far the best quote after literally hours of searching and form filling.

Funnily enough I've just been on this 'merry-go-round' having tried to find companies that do 90 days is a bit of a nightmare, hours and hours I've spent and most of it was a total waste of time!

If you use comparison sites some don't give you how many days the policy provider covers so you have to then scour their site to find out, most don't give you the option of saying the duration you want so you have to wade through the long list of quotes and most of them, if not all, are for a lot less than 90 days.

Then of course if you do go to the each company's site direct you end up going cross-eyed having to enter all the info individually and find out that they come up with extortionate prices or despite claiming to offer long term cover the max is 45 or 60 days if you're lucky!

Having looked at many I've come to the conclusion that for us for the length of cover we want (90 days), the 'quality' of the policy, and the price, we're going with LV!

Saga wanted £234  and another which I can't remember the name of now wanted nearly £800  with Safeguard somewhere in between!o_O

I've got a quote from LV of £168 for an annual policy with pre-existing conditions, certainly no way as cheap as it would have been in previous years but everything has got up a lot, however it works out at less than £1 a day when split over 2 x 90 days trips. We don't need baggage cover so I've been able to keep it as low as possible, also by going through a cashback site I should get £15 back too.

LV. We've got cover for 270 days. Sensible price and approach to pre-existing conditions. Only got cover included for the stuff that relevant to our situations so stuff such as cancellation of flights etc not included. Easy to deal with online.

Within Europe, we just use the bank insurance which is fine until you have an issue...... we have used for the past 15yrs and all has been good.... this year due to issues..... £800 per yr and not through the bank

Reading finished and policy taken out with Staysure.

Annual comprehensive multi trip policy covering all of Europe for two sixty somethings - £58

Total time away not to exceed 182 days.

Max single trip length is 50 days but added an optional extra allowing one trip up to 100 days - £56

Insurance tax brought the lot to £137

A quick google search found a promo code which got me £10 off the policy, so total paid £127

Well pleased with that. Hope the info is of use to someone else.

Thanks again all for the suggestions.

Rogerwyn – just for clarity, we’re talking about travel insurance and not van / breakdown insurance

I was as surprised as you we already have motorhome and car insurance with them also home so the give a discount for having it😊 to be honest I’m not usually happy using one for all however their pricing is very competitive and does not go up by large amounts each year.😊 good on em eh good old LV😊

Hi, does anyone bother with the UK global health ins card, we have them and has anyone used them?
Yes we still take ours but you still need good travel insurance as E/Ghic does not cover everything😊
