Does anyone take out Travel Insurance when Motorhoming in France?

I'm 77 and use the cover on my Nationwide FlexPlus account.
£13 a month covers my travel needs, breakdown cover for all my 5 vehicles and a lot more.
They apply an additional fee for some declared health issues but I've found the premium very competitive.

They offer:
'Worldwide travel, mobile phone and European breakdown cover. Pay just £13 a month for maintaining the account'.

It may be worth a look/quote.

We have an annual policy to cover us for other travel so the van tours are included anyway.

Anyone who doesn't have travel insurance is going to get in trouble big time should they fall ill or have an accident. They shouldn't expect the Consultant to bail them out. The French do have an excellent health service though.

Is 'Consultant' protected sex predictive text for Consulate?

We just have the cover provided with our Nationwide account. If you decide not to bother with insurance or even if you do at least get a ghic card

I read the various comments on a post like this and conclude that some people on this forum think that Travel

Insurance is the same as Health InSurance !

Well, no it isn’t,but there is overlap in the covers provided. We have an annual travel insurance with Staysure that covers many health issues, including cost of treatment abroad,as well as Breakdown cover and insurance for the van with Comfort.

But yes,you are right….folk need to remind themselves of what is covered on which policy..

It's not the same but it's a really big part of travel insurance. The cost of major medical treatment is going to dwarf the cost of cancellation of the holiday for any reason. Im struggling to think of anything holiday insurance would cover that would cost anywhere near a large medical bill especially in countries like the USA

Thanks to everyone who has replied. It’s a resounding yes! I was asking the question because I have the Rapido covered and contents and of course the ehic cards but wondered whether I should buy travel insurance and if so, whether to include the first week that is in the UK?
The general opinion seems to be yes.
Thanks, Rob

We also have an annual travel insurance policy with Staysure, primarily for the medical cover. Although there is also cover for cancellation and other items, the medical is the reason we always have a live policy.

No real need for medical cover in the UK, other than possibly dental.

Are you sure? I thought there was an additional premium for over 70’s.

I’d never travel abroad without health cover. We’ve used Staysure who are always very helpful (can speak to a proper helpful person) and seem reasonable for older people. I think repatriation, should it be needed, is the important issue . . .

I doubt that they will cover anything in the Uk as you are not "on holiday" with access to Uk health care.
they wouldn't cover my mate when he returned ill from the states & had spent 000's over there that they repaid & he could also have had the op over there but didn't as they intimated they would prefer him to have it done in the UK. then refused to pay as he was "not on holiday"

LV multi trip policy, wouldn’t be without it.
Another vote for LV premier multi trip policy, up to 90 days per trip, and covers you for riding motorcycles over 125cc if a helmet and appropriate clothing is worn. £88 for me with high blood pressure declared, age 67.

Have you got your GHIC card yet? This replaced the former EHIC card. Check on the NHS website.

Worth looking at the 'limits of stay' section of the policy. I'm with Staysure and they allow trips up to 50 days per trip and a maximum of 183 for the length of the policy (1 year). If you're over 70 that reduces) I paid over £100 for that for me and my wife. So the LV insurance, mentioned above, seems better.
Also bear in mind that legally you're supposed to have repatriation cover when in France, which incidentally the Staysure cover includes. You might think that's something you can do without, but apparently it can cost many £1000s to be repatriated for health reasons, if required, and you haven't got cover. So it's worth it IMO.

Hello:)
My problem is although my wife and I are residents, ie have uk doctor & residence. We are out of the uk more than 6 months:(
Still trying to find suitable annual insurance cover after NFU decided they couldn’t cover us anymore, even though we have not claimed in about 20 years of traveling.
Any ideas?
