How did they manage to get flights if it was known they wouldn't be let in? Who paid for the return flight? Have they had to quarantine?

All I know is they got off the plane and the police would not let them in seems airlines don’t care as long as they sell tickets just heard from a mate who has an apartment in Spain and she’s saying the same some of her friends were turned back even though they were going there to sort out there apartments for renting

gus-lopez will know the local rules.
It is possible to get a flight there with the exemptions from this end, but their end, their rules. If the Spanish thought they were doing a "Stanley Johnson" cleaning of apartment in readiness for the season then I suppose they can, and did, say No Entry.

This was in the press a couple of weeks ago. They were home owners (possibly holiday homes) who had not completed their residency. They had some papers, which they thought should get them in, but they were not acceptable to the Spanish authorities, so returned on the next available flight

Spain is not on the red list...........is it? So presumably they would not have to quarantine on the return from Alicante airport.

Don't know anymore than we have been told, but surely anyone doing the same would find out before traveling what the rules are, otherwise it's just money down the drain, apart from anything else.

From the BBC website:
At the moment, people in England face a £5,000 fine for having a holiday abroad!

I didn't think we could leave the country before 17th May.

Well that's what I thought but obviously some people view it differently.
So the ops friends got off lightly if all they got was turned round.

Think that you can travel for a valid reason, and the confusion was over whether or not they had Spanish residency or not. They thought they were entitled and the Guardia Civil thought otherwise

Non EU can’t enter Spain by air or sea.

If you have already obtained Spanish residency then yes, you can come and go between Spain and uk with tests.

otherwise, no entry.

Even if we are allowed to leave UK from the 17th, it depends if other countries will accept us.

Spain closed to non EU until 31st May...could extend beyond this....

Airlines will let you fly, maybe even knowing you won’t get in. Doesn’t matter if they have to fly you back for free. Planes are almost empty anyway.
Emirates Airline wouldn't let us board for Frankfurt a couple of months ago.

Not that I know of as long as you comply.

As others have stated no entry for non-eu,includes UK citizens, until after 31st May at least.

You have to quarantine for 10 days at home returning from anywhere along with day 2 and 8 tests as well.
Red list you have to do it in a hotel.

Yes we did the hotel Q11. Who checks the ones supposedly home Qing that they are actually doing it EVERY DAY and night i wonder.

Airlines have recently had to fly the passengers back for free.
