Hi we wish to visit a Berlin for a few days in July, all the places I have found for overnight surrounding the city are expensive, pay for everything inc a Toilet, tight parking spaces etc, reviews not good.
Therefor looking for recommendations of a good place to park for a few nights a village or small town that has a direct rail link to the centre of Berlin up to 1.5 hr Journey.
Any ideas please.
Mick

I do not know what you consider expensive compared to rail fares from 1-1/2 hours away for a few days.

Have you tried Googling 'Potsdam Stellplatz'? Potsdam itself is interesting and there are gardens at a mid-pont stop into Berlin.

Geoff

Thanks Geoff,
I was referring to expensive as all the reviews I have found and read state the sites are very poor unclean etc and some in run down areas. Quite happy to pay for a site and realise in a city it will be more. But don’t fancy contributing to a run down site that does not make improvement.
Regards trains as an ex BR employee I get 50 % discount.
Have looked at Potsdam with a view to commuting from there, thanks for your reply.

Another vote for Potsdam. It’s got a lot of history and of course the famous Bridge of Spies. An unexiting but pleasant train ride into Berlin.
We stayed at the campsite which was spotless with plenty of facilities, a small shop restaurant and bar and a free bus to the nearest tram stop into Potsdam Centre. You can ring them to be collected again on return. It’s in a lovely position alongside the large lake with walking/cycling opportunities.
I think you can also get a sightseeing boat from Potsdsm into Berlin.

If you book campsite through C&MC you can get a discounted rate.

We stayed at Wohnmobil Oase-Berlin site code 52434 on Campercontact, it was safe, walkable close to Bernauer strasse and checkpoint Charlie and even closer to the U-bahn for the city centre, we thought it was ideal for Berlin.

Yes it's just a gravel parking spot but gated at night.

Martin

Edit, sorry not checkpoint Charlie but the documentation centre with an exhibition of the wall going up.

What was the name of the Campsite. .?

We stayed on the stellplatz at Potsdam. Very interesting place in itself and an easy commute to Berlin centre. Although we stayed at spandau, which was about 45 minutes by bus to the centre.

We stayed at the same place as Martin, nice and easy to get into the city.

We also stayed on the car park of the Tennis courts at Charlottenburg, we stayed here for 3 nights with no issues.

We’ve just left Campingpark Sanssouci, An der Pirschheide 41. Very easy access to Potsdam and Berlin. Very good facilities
