Just looking
Need some advice. I'm collecting my motorhome in the next couple of weeks, it has a smartrack protector pro global tracker installed which is thatcham S7.
Will this be adequate security alongside an alarm, I'm considering the strikeback or outsmart the thief.

My head is spinning going back and forth with what to get, I want to make a decision before getting some insurance quotes.

Call Van Bitz.
You will get a fairly unbiased reply.

We picked up our motorhome from the dealer (in the North East) and drove straight to Van Bitz (in the South West) to have a tracker, alarm, engine blocker, solar panel, Gaslow system and a few other bits before driving home (in the south east).
A 600 mile round trip

Well worth the journey, gave a lot of peace of mind, and made the van insurable.

I have the same tracker as the OP. I coupled this with the strikeback growler. Had them both for 6 years and very happy with both.

I m literally halfway between phone calls between dealer and alarm installer to do exactly the same thing.

My research on the matter amounted to about 12 years of reading Motorhomefun and a 2 minute call to eddievanbitz as I know I ll get what i want even though i know (and now he knows) less than most about the subject.

Another half hour and hopefully it will all be organised

Good to hear that this set up has worked for you, thanks for helping me with my decision.

May I enquire which insurer you are speaking to, and are they happy to take into account that you will be getting the alarm system fitted after you have taken out the insurance with them.

What is the current lead time to have one of the vanbitz systems installed.

Edit. Just realised it's the dealer and not the insurer you are speaking to.

The insurer (who i genuinely cant remember) was doing my re insurance for this year and realised we would be swapping vehicles and as it is over 50K I had to have a tracker. (so he told me) I (so the wife told me) had to have an alarm. When mentioning alarms and trackers to insurance company i mentioned the strikeback and the growler and he said "Theyre good enough as theyre the best you can get" That was the end of that decision making process !!!

Sent Eddie a message last night. Contact this morning. Spoke through with them for 10 minutes. Call back was if you can do X Y and Z then we can fit you in Wednesday. X Y and Z occurred so I am booked in for Wednesday next week (6 days time) and it could have been Tuesday if I hadnt promised to take my team on the lash Monday night !

Cheers for that.
I've rang around today and had a few quotes and comfort came out the best. Main criteria from the insurers was the tracker, having an alarm fitted made no difference with any of the quotes, so it's entirely down to how far I want to go with the security.
I'm leaning towards having the strikeback or growler but still not fully decided.

I ve just got home and it is motorhomeprotect.co.uk and the broker is LV
£420 including european breakdown, protected bonus, legal 6,000 miles a year, both clean licences and full no claims. £40K motor 5 years old owned from new no adjustments to motor
I didnt bother shopping around this year as it was only £20 more expensive than last year.
Thought it was a good price so just renewed.

I m now going to cancel the new policy (which would have started on 26th) and start a new policy for the new motor on 15th (when i get reg no) and ruin my Xmas every year by having to pay it just before crimbo (which may save money on presents!)

Tis a bit of a muddle in that some/most motorhome insurance companies insist on tracker/alarm/secure storage/posts in the drive and others like L&V appear not too.

L&V go on market value so YOU have to ensure they understand and record what you are insuring what it has fitted and how much it cost. if you do that then their insurance can be nearly 50% less than some of the big names in MH insurance.

Fortunately not had to test the claims process assume there are some in FUN who could advise!

HOWEVER have fitted a VTS tracker and Growler alarm from Van Bitz. Don't want it stolen but if they can defeat said systems then ?????????????????

Sorry further EDIT as to get the best from L&V insurance you need to buy direct if you don't (unless anyone knows better) you get a reduced benefit version, i.e. limited windscreen cover..... CHECK the T&Cs carefully.

I would start at the insurer but most seem to value a tracker over an alarm, ours just wanted a tracker on £240k van but gave a couple of hundred £ discount for Phantom alarm.

Just been through this exercise. Needed a tracker PDQ for a new van. Comfort needed exact fitting date, and tracker to be fitted within 2 weeks. Went through this company. They proved excellent and within 2 working days the tracker was fitted on my drive.

BTW, £60k van, 10,000 miles, European cover included. £350.

I've been quoted £318 by comfort, so I'm pleased with that. They were the best quote with safeguard via scenic being next best, caravanguard were a lot more.

I've already got a tracker fitted which as you say is the most important thing the insurers want. Comfort have provided me the with the best quote.
