Does anyone know if you can tow a car behind your motorhome on a dolly. I'm assuming it's okay. Just wanted to check if anyone else does it

How about in Europe too?

Nope.
Totally illegal.
Only permitted for use by the official recovery companies, and then they are very limited on speed and distance.
They are designed to remove the vehicle to a point of safety.

In most of the rest of Europe, not even the recovery companies can use them, especially Spain.

Towing a car using an 'A' frame is permitted (in that it is not illegal) in the UK.
But they are illegal everywhere else, and specifically forbidden in Spain.

If you want to tow a car, get a car trailer.
If you become a paid up member on Motorhome Fun you get access to the Classifieds.
There are usually a couple of Car trailers available for sale.

Thanks! I thought so! Is there a limit on the weight of the car for an a frame say less than 1000kg
No, we towed a Daihatsu Terios for years which weighed 1170kg

We ordered it from new as it's a popular choice of "TOAD" (American for A Frame) in the States, with Dihatsu even having a section in the handbook telling the procedure.

We tow a Suzuki Ignis on a "Towbars to Tow cars" which is a superb really light system that I can put on or off in literally in two or three minutes

There is a limit for unbraked trailer of 750kg. Most A-frame systems include a system to activate the towed car’s brakes.

We were parked up next to a Dutch Morelo in Vera, Spain. He was towing a Smart car on an A Frame. He never actually spoke to us, he tried harder to avoid us than talk. The Dutch couple at the other side to us went on to tell us that he was chatting with them and kept referring to their “small van” and “small” this and that. Perhaps he never spoke because we were bigger, who knows. Anyway, they went on to say that he was telling them he has been stopped 4 times in 3 months by the Spanish Police. He just unhitches drives a few miles and hooks back on. His attitude didn’t surprise me but thought the Spanish Police would be a little more organised with registering his offence and preventing continual law breaking.

Interesting! So in theory you could tow a car that's 1600kg on a brakes system

You could......
In the UK only.

But be aware you would be unable to reverse.

Get a small car trailer, it means you can tow anywhere and you can reverse (with practice),
it also saves converting a car (or buying one converted).

Several Smart car trailers for sale on EBay for about £1k, or brand new for prices starting with a £2k.

You can revers with a Towbars To Tow cars system

how far ?
Can you reverse around a corner and then straighten up like you can with a conventional trailer
Yes you can, no old fashioned override braking system as it's all electronic

This video shows how easy it is to do a three point turn around the middle of the video
