hi, depends what you like . follow the coast line its lovely. there is lots to see on the other side with the border with spain ,old castles etc. you could never get to the algarve as there is so much to see elsewhere. lots of lovely scenary inland . go with an open mind . its smashing. you could be there for years n not get fed up. lots of old traction engines on concrete plynths in the country old vehicles all over the place. dont be in a hurry . cheers alan
there is large carparks and an area set aside for motorhomes complete with toilets and water.
And as Alan say's there are plenty of inland places to see, forget the Algarve as it is very busy and the local constabulary have a tendency to move you on.

On the coast I just loved Figuire Da Foz - GoogleWorld it and just look at the beach! Giant parking area to the south of the beach.
Lisbon was like being in London - toooooooo crowded.
For small town - Sesimbra just below Lisbon small fishing village, quite built up but very clean, great beaches of course, lovely surrounding and food choice to drool over. (Best leave big vans outside central area of tiny streets - car parks on way in and only short walk through town).
Vasco Da Gama Bridge coming South from Lisbon is not to be missed - I was only charged E3.50 toll for bridge plus 30 od miles.
Lisbon? Of course! Some call it the most beautiful town in Europe besides Rome and Paris.
I suggest not to drive to the town itself since parking places are rare to not existing for your vehicle. Instead, overnight at Camping Aveira (West of Lisbon), in front, there is a bus to Cascais, from there take the train to the main station in Lisbon (down by the beach front). Walk to the city centre. One day will do to see the main attractions.
Great camp site in the centre of Lisbon, busses and trams good in Lisbon, don't miss the dams, [ barragems ] very scenic and you can overnight at them usually. The Algarve is great for all its length and lots of free camping all the way.

Thats like saying the CC's Abbeywood site is in the centre of London Camping Lisbon is a 30-45 minute bus ride into the centre of Lisbon, Great site though as you say.
Keep them coming!
We were in Portugal last year for Christmas and were up at Lisbon but not overly enthrawled so legged it to the Algarve for some nice xmas sun!
Thinking of trying it again but via the northern spanish coast then down, and as we're now a bit more experienced (and braver wild camping!) we should find it better.
We did bumble around a bit last time...
