Is anyone using Tom Tom Go Camper, if so what are your thoughts. I currently use a Tom Tom product but it is for smaller vehicles than motorhomes.
I was wondering whether to stick with Tom Tom or go to one of the other specialised GPS, Garmin, Aguri or Snooper

I have a Go Camper.

It’s been ok to be fair. It’s only took me to a road (bridge) that was too narrow once, which left a tricky reverse....luckily there was nothing behind on the single track road.

You can set up your length, width, height and weight so routing is tailored to your vehicle’s dimensions.

It’s so much easier than my previous Tom Tom to update as it doesn’t need connecting to a computer and comes with free lifetime map, camera and traffic updates.

The live traffic updates don’t even need pairing to your phone as my other Tom Tom did.

have a look on amazon for the NEW snooper Ventura s5100 , £280 from snooper , currently £186.04 on amazon Pre order, dispatched when stock arrives at amazon..

I have the original S5000 Ventura, and have been extremely satisfied with it. had it so long been thinking about replacing it in the near future.
having just found this deal i have put in my order...

We use the Tom Tom Camper and found it to be pretty good. Have previously had both Snooper and Aguri and didn't think much of either of them! Wouldn't recommend either of them.

TomTom trucker is very good, big screen and lifetime maps. Okay it occasionally takes you over a cliff but 9 times out of 10 good. Also back it up with Google maps via CarPlay as a belt and braces. Plus us now What3words.

Had tom tom and now Garmin. Both have tried to take me down dodgy roads so don't think theres much in them.I preferred the tom tom, but it was old and no longer had updates.

I have an avtex/garmin for camper van & a standard tomtom , I much prefer the way the tomtom works
so I have both on in the motorhome , using the info from garmin but following the tomtom

We’ve got one does a good job, yes you can set the dimensions of your vehicle but you may need to set it to heavy camper to get the dimensions right for your vehicle.
You can program it from your phone using the tomtom MyDrive app.
It also allows you to use it as a hands free calling for your mobile phone.

It is a good unit and now it has come down in price it is a good option.

Thanks for the info, made my mind up, I will stick with Tom Tom although not sure I will the world maps as I only really need the whole of Europe

Just back from a tour using the go camper but put my old 1005 camper on as well much easier to use and although the maps are 5 years out of date it didn’t miss a road, took longer to find satellites but nothing excessive it’s easier to find aires with also

It won’t have the world maps on it when you get one just Europe
, you can add the maps you want later

Hello All,
I've always had Tom Tom's so pretty used to them now. I'm thinking of upgrading to the Campervan & Caravan GO, so interested in any further comments from owners.
Particularly interested in the Live Traffic (built in Sim) & how that performs. My current TomTom , I have to link to my phone data and can be a bit hit & miss!
Would appreciate some advice.

Al. Stay Safe.

My old Tom Tom got it’s traffic updates in the same way as yours.

I now have the Tomtom Camper with built in traffic updates, the notifications I’ve had up to now with it have been flawless and accurate, I never had any traffic update accuracy issues with the old one, but now don’t have to rely on my phone being connected.

It also uses a user based update system for mobile speed cameras, after it has advised on one being there, after you pass the reported position it asks if it is still there, which can be done by a single press on the screen or by voice.

They are expensive....but for my it was a worthwhile upgrade from my slightly ageing unit.

All the updates, map, software etc Can also be done without connecting to a computer, just connect to your home WiFi now and then....it does notify you if there are updates available.

Hi sennen523

The Tomtom Go Camper inbuilt sim works fine however you should be aware that the inbuilt sim is 2g and so if and when any country, like Switzerland has just done, turns their 2g system Off then the inbuilt sim will not provide the services required such as Traffic. When this situation arises then you can connect the unit to your Mobile phones hotspot, Bluetooth or a Mifi and get the service that way. Tomtom indicate that the amount of data needed fro Traffic based on about 1 hours use per day is about 7mb per month. Interestingly I got caught in a major Traffic snarl up in the Bournemouth area as a result of major road works and a Premier league match involving MU. Because of an issue, which has rarely happened, the inbuilt Sim could not connect to the Tomtom servers. I turned on my Mifi and instantly got the Traffic data and managed to get around the traffic problem quite quickly.

One other feature that you may not realise is that you can add 3rd Party POI files to the unit using Tomtom's My Drive website and you can also use the same website or the My Drive App on your phone to send destinations or create and save routes and send them to the GO Camper. When the GO Camper unit is turned on and the inbuilt sim is connected to the Tomtom servers it will still receive the POI files and Routing data from My Drive. A lot of the data such as your POI files, Home and Work and saved routes on the GO Camper will be backed up in your My Drive account and so if you were to need to do a factory reset on the unit whilst travelling then when it connects to the Tomtom servers via the inbuilt sim it will download all that data including the 3rd Party Poi files back onto the unit. For the record Routes created and saved on the GO Camper will not be backed up in your account but can be downloaded and added manually.

My Tom Tom has just deleted the whole of Europe!

Hi pandas

My Tom Tom has just deleted the whole of Europe!
When you do an update the unit deletes the old map to make space for the replacement. The loss of a map is usually caused by some issue during the update process. What Tomtom unit do you have? This might help.

If you have a Wifi model then this may help

I am really sorry but my comment was in jest related to reports about Britons facing a bad on entering the EU.

Just bought one from Amazon Warehouse at £213, and it's as new.
I was happy with tomtom go on my phone but as my phone was already streaming spotify and being a phone it was really being hammered. I also like the bigger screen and the messaging features.

We've got the current camper go, but I find it not as reliable as my old tomtom camper one , maybe I used the old one mostly in France over many years , and since getting this one , had to use in this country only , and have been disappointed by it taking me down loads of narrow rooads / lanes , some I have had to reverse quite away back due too getting extremely narrow too narrow for motorhomes. Found it very poor in Cornwall ( where we now live ) I have found the local roads here mostly quite narrow but none are 6ft 6inch signed so if going that way tomtom will expect you to use it . Lost confidence in it , but will live it.
