As we have been using the Moho.
When emptying the toilet cassette there is pee under it.
But the funny thing is it's not all the time.
We only pee in it and I empty it every two days.
And I only use washing tables in it.
So my daft question is do you open the trap door before use.
We leave it closed and have a pee then close the lid and open the trap.
Is there a right and wrong way to use it.
On the last day when empty I put an egg cup size of bleach straight into the cassette and flush water into it.
Then I empty it at home after it's sloped about while driving home.
Then I put a table with water until the next outing.
Always smells of the tablet no stink.
Any advice please.

As above but check/replace the seal as well

Lol a toilet thread :roflmto:

open the flap before you use the toilet. The cassette relies on a contact seal with the plastic of the toilet and the rubber seal on the cassette. They often leak past this and contaminate the locker if not used properly

cat litter is your friend when cleaning up spilled bodily fluids. No smell and easy to use

If seal is in good condition it will not leak regardless of how you operate loo..

Maybe your seals need replacing. There’s one in the flap and another smaller one that fits in the thingy in the base, can’t renember what it’s called! But if you turn it a quarter turn the whole thing comes out,new one is about a fiver.

Flap open for us....granddaughter (10) always shouting from the loo..granny I've opened it. ::bigsmile: :X3:

If it's a wheeled cassette, the wheels can wear down through use, particularly if dragged across hard surfaces. This causes the seal not to make good contact and can cause leakage, more so if flap is closed during use.

Crickey you learn something every day. All these times we have rented and 3 trips in our own i have always done the stand up with the flap closed. (never done a sit down in a van). Need to tell Mrs Bob the ground shattering news.

Don't think so... at least on my van wheels are in recess when cassette is inserted and the bottom of cassette is slid Into base....Unless of coarse you drag the bottom of your cassette along ground... then maybe???

I had the same problem with leakage so I have oiled my flange ( 😂) and put a thin sheet of polypropylene under the cassette to raise it up a bit.
Looking good so far 😀
Oooohhhhh matron.

Good word flange!
Open first what’s the point in filling the bowl at least there’s a hole to aim for.
Never sat on ours, I assume the good lady does.

When you replace the seal in the cassette, also replace the White plastic sprung clip thaT is on the top of the framethatthecassette sits in ( it is under the bit You sit on. You can buy the two parts together from Thetford. It is this bit

The van was new in February so the seals can't have gone so quick.
I will try it with the trap open and see how we get on.
I only put bleach in as am a bit of a clean freak.
I clean all the walls with a diluted bleach solution.
Before all the duvets covers, towels and cloths go back in.
And hover and wash the floor last.
Thanks for the replies.

Don't be so sure...
Our van was brand new and loo leaked.. Turned out seal was twisted in position and dealer said it was a regular fault. However easy fix.

Flap closed surely. How else can you see how much you've produced? That's one of the main benefits of a cassette toilet! Who hasn't seen if they can make it reach the underside of the toilet seat?

It also tells you if the seals are working. Simply check the cassette area when emptying. If it is 2cm deep in urine, the seals need replacing. Simple.

Just close the lid before pulling the blade. Otherwise, it does a slopping noise as it goes down and a little fountain of wee flies into the air.

Flap open to poo, closed to pee. If it leaks the seal is worn. The seal doesn't rely on the cassette being held up by its wheels - the underside of the bowl engages with the top of the cassette either side of the seal area and holds it in place.

Generally. Check the Upper Bowl has been completely emptied. Before you go to remove the cassette. Often what is believed to be urine, is no more than the flush water someone has left in the bowl.
Always lubricate the seal with silicone spray regularly to help keep it supple😊
As far as I can remember, Thetford recommend the likes of at light wipe with olive oil?. Many things that contain petroleum derived chemical will attack the seal material.

BTW. If/when storing do you leave the blade open or closed?. I know some tuggers who lay up thier `vans for the winter remove them completely and store separate in the Bathroom?

Thetford do a silicone spray specific to their cassettes.😊

Our Thetford C series leaked into the compartment from new. I know of several others that had the same issue. I laid a piece of vinyl flooring in the cassette compartment floor and it's been completely water tight ever since. Only needs to raise the cassette a couple of millimetres to fix it.
