It appears that the linkage for opening the flap to let the toilet waste has become disconnected. It worked the first few times I tried it but now it's just loose.

How do I access it without destroying the thing? It's a Thetford and the lever is on the right side of the toilet pot in about the 2 o'clock position as you are seated.

Thanks.

Since 2008 & many years tugging
The section with the mechanism rotates about 30° and lifts out.
This may not be the same as yours but they are all similar.

My guess would be - you need to remove cassette and gain access from there...

Mine is a dometic so different...

Chances are, som part of the linkage has come undone.

When you use the lever on the side of the toilet, it moves a mechanical linkage inside the cassette compartment that turns the yellow button on the actual cassette...

20190604_114131.jpg

On the image below which is taken from the floor of the cassette compartment looking upwards, the part coloured blue is where the raised ridge of the yellow button on the cassette locates when you slide the cassette into the compartment.
The black plastic cam and the steel rod attached (red arrows) are turned and moved by the lever on the side of the toilet. This causes the white plastic moulding with the teeth on the RHS (green arrow) to rotate so that when the raised ridge on the yellow button of the cassette are located into the correct slot, marked blue, the yellow button rotates about 1/5th of a turn and opens the blade.

Hope this makes sense and doesn't cause further confusion

So what was wrong and what was the 'fix'

Do tell.

Geoff

The metal rod connecting the lever on the pot to the opening mechanism had jumped out of its wee hole on the mechanism. I took out the cassette, popped the rod back in and they presto Bob's yer auntie Mary :D2
