Hi,

Not a very exciting topic, but can anyone please advise what the best toilet chemicals are to use please? Some seem quite expensive, are those ones much better or will any do as such?

Many thanks

Everyone has their own favourite method and you will find it best to experiment. I use the Lidl bio washing tabs but then I have a SOG which really helps on the smells front and I don’t mind any smells when dumping.

Just don’t use domestic toilet chemicals on the plastic of your MH toilet.

Some campsites won’t allow you to empty if you are using the blue chemical.

Use the blue stuff. It’ll be fine.

I have tried a variety of bio washing liquids just out of interest but honestly can't see the point might be different if we didn't have a SOG.

Toilet Chemicals are bad for any rural septic system, just don't use them or stick to sites that have mains drainage and use them as you will damage any septic tanks or micro sewage system the owner may have installed.

They are a total waste of money and ineffective. Use a biological agent, such as found in bio washing liquids for clothes as previously posted, or simply add nothing to your effluent, just empty frequently in hotter weather.

You will not have smells if the natural bacteria is left to do its job.

SOG works on this principle but has a fan to remove any odours from the bathroom and helps to oxyginate your cassette.

Wait till you run out of flushing water wild camping and cant get any for the next 24 hours to see what crapping in a plastic bag lined toilet does for you and how to store it until you find a public toilet to dispose of it. You will be amazed how it all works!

The bio liquid helps break down the solids and paper so it comes out of the cassette easily. We use it but also have a SOG.

I only ever get a slurry out of ours with the aide of nothing but nature, to be honest its a lot easier to empty than I remember from when I used blue every time in our pre SOG caravan days.

Aldi have Blue Diamond concentrate at £5.99 at the moment. This works well for us. Big 4l bottles of Elsan Blue were on sale at the Norfolk show last weekend for a tenner.

Green chemicals such as Aqua Chem Green are completely septic tank safe and are very effective in breaking down solids and paper and reducing odours,.

The blue fluid contains, among other chemicals, Formaldehyde. It is nasty, and buggers up septic tanks. However, I wouldn't be without it in the Summer. In my experience, Bio tabs are fine in the colder weather but not good enough to keep smells down when the weather warms up.

We have used the Aldi green stuff and we thought it was good. But on a recent trip we ran out. We resorted to bio liquid wash stuff but it just didn't do the job in the very hot conditions. We could only find the Thetford stuff. Very expensive but it had to be done. It is much thicker and very effective.

Aldi blue diamond green. £5.99. Emptied at least every 2 days for that special fragrance.
Never park near someone with a SOG on an aire close up.
Remember. If it’s yellow let it mellow, if its brown flush it down.

I wouldn't want to forget the "mellow yellow" and drive off though (n) it all goes down in ours.

Bio liquid and don't rinse cassette when emptying. Keeps the good bugs going. Make sure every trace of 'blue' is washed out of the cassette first as it will prevent the breakdown process.

We use bio washing liquid all year round even at over 30 deg. I always empty every day and we don't wild camp, may not be so easy if you do.

These are the Lidl ones, but I didn’t find every Lidl had them recently in Germany - which is odd as they are a German company

Yes just pop one in after emptying, with a little water to help it dissolve.

Get a couple of bottles of dye from the craft shop, add to your cassette.... You can have any colour you want then and still be protecting the environment.... just think of the colour combinations and FUN you can have...

Aldi, Lidl, anything else - no matter, So long as it's the biological stuff.

Start with one tab, use more if it doesn't keep the smell down.
