Hello,

We have a cassette that needs a thorough cleaning.i.e removal of lime scale etc.
Can anyone advise on the most efficient method of doing this ? We are probably going to change our Motorhome and would like the cassette to be as clean as possible for the new owners.

Many thanks

Pam

I have used the Thetford tank cleaner with hot water and that works well but since using bio washing pods it self cleans so try one (or 2) of those first and leave to soak overnight.

Two on Tour suggested how to clean a cassette here
I've bookmarked that post in the event our MH needed this task :o

Thetford tank cleaner with hot water, left overnight and shaken occasionally worked for me.....

I use a jet wash on the inside of mine, remove the centre bit by turning to the left then you can do most of the inside and the bit you remove as well.

Oh goodeeeeee,a toilet thread.....haven’t had one for a while.

How about some pics?

:ROFLMAO:  :ROFLMAO:
There was a spider in mine last time I used it.....

I posted this a few weeks ago on another thread......

"Decided to service the Thetford C200 cassette.

We live in a soft water area and are always surprised at the amount of limescale in the cassette when we return from a winter in Spain.

Started a couple of days ago by making a fairly strong soap mixture with bio washing powder, put it in the cassette and filled up with warm water till it overflowed. Left this for two days, turning the cassette regularly to ensure everything internal was steeped for a while.

This afternoon, emptied it all out, rinsed and then took every component part out of the cassette. Used a nail brush, pan scourer, flat blade screwdriver, etc to clean every surface.washed again with soapy water and rinsed. Dried off and then reassembled.
(top tip... the part that looks like a shoulder bone and has three component parts inc the yellow knob that turns the blade... practice putting this together a few times OUTSIDE the cassette before fitting it inside as you are working blind )

Fit a new rubber seal after smearing it with vaseline.

Used wet & dry to rub the two "runners" on the bottom moulding of the cassette body to smooth out a few scratches and rubbed a candle on them to make a smoother slide into the compartment.

Very satisfying and a whole lot of limescale removed"

If you search YouTube for "servicing Thetford cassetes ", there are quite a few showing how to dismantle and reassemble them.

Good luck.

If using one of the suggested cleaners with water and it needs sloshing about a day or two in the car boot if out for a drive is good👍
