Advice please. 1st year motorhoming, previous 25 years caravan.
Tow or not to tow?
A frame?
Trailer.
Bailey Autograph.

'A' frame is easier; however, reversing is a bit awkward with the front wheels wanting to do their own thing. Also, Johnny Foreigner could take a dim view of it. I limited my travels with an A frame to within UK and France, but have heard of others having run into conflict with the police in Germany and Spain.

I have towed with trailer and a frame for many years and found the trailer inconvenient to say the least so prefer a frame but only in the U.K.
Obviously towing must be within the limits of your licence and the towing vehicle.
I use an a frame with a remote braking system so very limited reversing is possible if in a tight spot but have rarely needed to.

My view. If I need to tow a car behind the MH, then why did I not stick with the caravan. Caravan is roomier and the car bigger.

Big problem with an A-frame is the wheels on the car go round and round, so do the numbers on the cars milometer!

Most don’t clock up the miles, digital speedo generally don’t, if the tow car has a mechanical speedo it’s generally so old it won t make a monkeys on the value. my 16 year old panda doesn’t clock up the miles. We did 10 years using public transport / taxis before getting a tow car. Trailers are essential in the eu but simply take up too much space at the campsite. It will be more stable than a caravan but just imagine you are towing a caravan but cannot reverse without uncoupling, that’s what its like.

When travelling Europe using aires some which are restricted a motorhome is the only way so for me a caravan is a no no.
The mileometer only works with ignition on in most modern cars so no problem.

If you're just going to a campsite for a week or so, then going home, then yes a caravan would probably be more comfortable. However, if you're going to just stay for a day or three, then move to the next and then the next, it may be worth towing a small car. At the end of the day it's dependant on personal needs and fitness levels.
I personally found setting up a caravan seriously broke into beer-drinking time.

Depends how big your motorhome is! :giggle:
Miles have not shown on the cars I have owned either.

Not much room in the aire when someone turns up with a motorhome, then sticks the trailer somewhere else, and then takes their car off.
Three spaces gone.
Don’t need another vehicle only cycles when using aires and stellplatz as most are in or close to communities with shops etc.
My point was that we only take the motorhome into Europe.
We tried trailer in U.K. but cumbersome so in U.K. we use a frame.

Best thing we ever did was to change from tuggers to Motorhomers, never want to tow again. You can use an A frame in the UK anywhere else the car needs to be on a trailer.
Towing a car defeats the object of having a Motorhome.
