Thoughts on one of these two?

Its to run the girlys hair drier when off grid for a few mins a morning. Maybe charge my Laptop twice a year.

Ooooo and possibly charge my eBikes battery but id only do that with the engine running to not whack the battery too hard.

we have the 2000w one of these, had it for 2 years with no problems... but dont use their supplied silly thin cables

Thin cables are usally too short anyway.

The way to buy the better cables is to buy an extra long set of heavy duty jump cables.
real thick wire. Comes as a pair in black and red.

And it works out cheaper than buying just the cable.
no idea how that works out but It does.
the bonus is you also get four free hand clamps that you will for sure find a use for.

We also have one and it’s been great. Mainly used for charging bike batteries. It’s been excellent but, as others recommend, use jump start cables.

I read somewhere on here that you have to be careful with jump lead cable as some are not what you would expect, buyer beware;)

Do NOT buy jump cables unless you are 100% certain of what they are made of, only the expensive ones are likely to be copper even then a fairly low grade copper, cheap ones often aluminum. Far better to buy proper cable.
Googlebot tried them & they melted.

Get a hairdryer that's less than 1500W, to go with the smaller one.
Make sure you have plenty of battery 'grunt'.
It's always difficult to guess the quality but price and weight can be a clue.

How big is your laptop battery (- if you only charge it twice a year ?-)
That will not be an issue for a 300W inverter (or more).

Even with a 1000 watt hair drier you need at least a 300ah battery bank preferably 400ah unless you have Lithium.

Lol it’s not that I charge it twice a year it’s that I'm only like to need it in the motorhome the odd time and unlikely I’ll use it enough to warrant charging it up.

Re wires. I always get my wires from my mates car stereo install shop. They have different thicknesses of really high end cable in for running amps etc.

My partner uses her hairdryer (if she can be bothered) on low heat which is 1000w running off my 1000w inverter (maplins I think and 2nd hand) and 2 x 110ah batteries, I've also used low wattage toaster and kettle off it...no problems in the 5 years it's been in 👍

I'm not sure what thickness of cable your mate might provide.
I think you'll need at least 25mm2 for 1000W and 35mm2 above (very thick wires).

Re cable, we bought an inverter for the narrow boat many years ago, got the heavy duty cable for it from a proper Auto electrical shop in Rotherham, Heathcotes if my memory serves me right. Had proper terminals crimped and soldered at the same place, didn't cost too much and we knew it was done right.

yes i think it was Googlebot who used jump start cables and the innner wire was not copper, or something like that

Edit: Lenny HB beat me to it
I did, seemed too good to be true.

Was very hard to tell though as they were copper coated. They did indeed melt under a blowtorch.

Welding cables is what I aim for now.

I got one of these, can't really fault it's use and binned the supplied cable which to be fair didn't look that bad tbh, but i'd already got some juicier ones. Gandiel also supplied with a replacement on/off switch and cable FOC as I had left it in my old van

It was cheaper back then as well, I think £239 ish

I've got a couple of those Giandel 2000W inverters. One is used at work to power a load of fairly hungry and sensitive electronics off grid for extended periods - including a gaming PC and big monitor (used for computing, not playing Call of Duty!). Genuinely can't fault it, which is why I bought the same for our camper.

I got a Victron one when I sorted mine. It broke within 3 months and had to be returned.

Second one so far is faultless, you don’t always get reliability with price. I do wonder if the extra was worth it given my experience.

Ive got a spare Giandel one the same as Al N val mentioned above, used it probably 40 minutes in total max , as I changed my van and went with a built in autoswitchover Renogy one, I was going to use it in my garage but its just overkill.
