Over 6000 miles between 3 March to 26 September 2017.
There seems to be a lack of public weighbridges in our area, Tameside, Greater Manchester. I've just rung one of our local tips (sorry, household waste recycling site!) and their charge is £14.35 per ticket:eek:. I think we'll just go and get the gross done at that price.

Do any of you wonderful knowledgeable people know of any weighbridges within, say, 5 miles of Tameside area, cheaper or preferably free.

Sorry Don't know the area but maybe this helps

Treat yourselves to a day out and go to sunny Todmorden, right behind the petrol station is a weigh bridge and even when he does three weighings he only charges for one but gives you three tickets

2 of those weighs would still be less than the minimum fine if stopped and over (y)(y)

https://www.freight-train.co.uk/downloads/VOSA_GFPN_guidance.pdf

The graduated fixed penalties are actually less than I thought they might be (y)

I guess if you find the gross is well under you don't need any more, but if close one more weigh might be sensible, save the fuel in going back at least (y)

@Zigisla , that was the link I used. I tried trading standards and she didn't have a clue and had to ask her supervisor, who suggested the tip in the next town. On ringing them, no answer. I tried the other one which is £14.35.

@laneside, although it's a pleasant drive to Todmorden, it's really not that close and we're off to Barmouth on Friday, hence wanting to get it done tomorrow when we've loaded up.

Have a quick look at the weigh bridge before you pull on, tips and recycling centres will have the potential to have dropped all sorts where you are about the drive, most of them will have much bigger tyres than you so don't really care

Things are much tidier these days than they used to be, just a word of caution, better no weigh than a blow out on the M6 o_O

A lot cheaper but not round the corner from you!:whistle::whistle:

Surprised @DavidG58 never been over it.:giggle::giggle::giggle:

I've just done a quick calculation re weight. Our payload is 680kg. Taking off that 64kg for solar panel, 2nd battery and spare wheel (no carrier), 155kg for full tank of fuel and half tank fresh water and 138kg for the two of us, leaves us with 323kg. We don't have bikes or a barbecue, so just the usual hook-up cable(s), hosepipe, bucket, watering can and a few bits and pieces in the garage. Crockery, pots, pans, clothes, towels, toiletries, electronic gadgets, not much at all. I'm sure we'll be ok but I just want to reassure myself.

Is this on the assumption that the MIRO is correct given the Chausson thread that was running a few days ago?

The important thing that weighing will answer is whether the manufacturers MIRO is correct, or as often seems to be the case, a complete work of fiction. Strangely any error never seems to be in the users favour.

doesnt the miro allegedly include fuel and water, and spare wheel? and i mean 'allegedly  ?'

All scrap yards have them, my local one lets just drive on, take a weight then drive off. £10 if you want a ticket

Think about other places where lorries have to be weighed such as Feed Mills, Sand & Gravel, bulk liquid, timber etc.

We have a place at Penrith that does woodchip and as long as you dont want a ticket they dont charge. We use it three or four times a year and give the Clerk a bottle of something nice at Xmas

Mike won't take it to a scrapyard. He's been in many during his working life as an alarm engineer and wouldn't even take his works car into the yards for fear of his tyres!

Thanks @namwaldog, just phoned our local sand & gravel place, no problem they said, but still charge £7. Half the price of the tip though. I'm happy with that.

Phone Tameside Council. Their Public weighbridge used to be at Tame St Stalybridge, but might have now moved to Park Road Hyde.

a) We're NOT going abroad (n) and b) we don't drink wine :p. Himself can fit a few cans of Boddies in though:LOL:

@Tootles, I did ring Tameside Council and the woman I spoke to didn't have a clue and had to ask her supervisor. She suggested I ring the tip on Bayley Street, Stalybridge, but no-one answered the phone!

Take it you were a local to us at one time.

Strange, I used three different weighbridges, no ticket, no charge, if I'd wanted a ticket £10. I thought it was cheaper oop north.

Mickey.

Dont bother with the ticket, just get a verbal weight.

The ticket is like an MOT ....its only valid at the time of issue.

You could have stuck a pallet of house bricks in the van as you left the weighbridge.

Plod/VOSA will weigh you regardless of any paper ticket.

I'll wait until next week then, be passing Newmarket next Friday :ROFLMAO:

Oh what a shame, many commiserations.
Went abroad once, was full of foreigners , and if I want the effect of wine, I'll drink vinegar - it's cheaper:D

A guy at Aggregates Industries in Glasgow said no problems in putting previous caravan over their weighbridge (foc). They've got depots all over the place so possibly one closeish to you and may be worth a call?
