Thinking of doing the NC500 ???

Then please think twice before you decide it's safe up here, which it is at the moment.

But for how long ?

We were due to be setting off on a 3 month tour of Scotland this week, but are now staying put. I'm not sure how anyone travelling for leisure in a motorhome can reconcile that with government advice to avoid non-essential travel.

So far, I think government briefings have been designed to appeal to the public's good nature without the risk of creating panic, but the Imperial College report makes things very stark.

Curtail non-essential activities now, and we stand a very slim chance that the need for hospital resources might remain within NHS surge capacity, although it is more likely to exceed capacity up to 8 fold, with deaths over the next several months measured in tens of thousands.

It is not a matter of whether you feel you are well and can avoid social contact. It is about minimising asymptomatic infection spread between different areas of the population, which will ultimately affect the number of infections sustained.

Carry on as we are, and we could be looking at a quarter of a million deaths or more.

We up around Invergordon where the cruise ships come in are hoping the port will close and stop the 104 ships due in this year. last thing we need are 4 -6000 passengers and crew coming ashore.

We returned home yesterday from the Highlands but we saw a fair few vans, tuggers and campers going North.

I've got a feeling that a number of motorhomers will divert to Scotland in lieu of their usual trip to Europe.

Where i live in Amber Valley we are lucky at the moment with zero corrivirus victims,,,Just hope people from heavily infected areas keep away..It was people from Madrid escaping to their summer houses on the coast that caused the big increase of cases in Spain,,Dont travel..BUSBY.

It`s still Snowing up there, Isn't it?. Besides, don't they have the dread "wee Jimmy Krankie" up there. That enough to frighten anyone off.

I would have thought that if you keep to yourselves in some of the less populated remote rural areas what harm is there? Appreciate the need for food and fuel. But you need food anyway even at home. Advice at the moment also suggests as long as you keep your distance it’s ok to go outdoors and get some exercise And fresh air.

The less populated remote areas have significantly less (or nil) health care facilities so if an infection was to occur where does that leave the local residents? Ambulances on blues and twos \ emergency helicopters \ etc for considerably more than the few minutes it takes elsewhere.
Please get your food \ take your exercise \ etc locally to yourself rather than in an area where there are no health facilities.
I would urge potential visitors to consider the implications of potentially transporting infection to these areas.

The government advice issued two days ago following the PM’s press conference/briefing was to avoid non-essential PUBLIC TRANSPORT travel.

Has that changed?

Having lived in Caithness for 14 years I do not think an influx of vans would be welcome at this time . Being a remote community they have a good chance of missing this virus and the medical facilities as has been said are suitable only for simple procedures for a small population . If serious you are taken to Inverness or Aberdeen . Check it out on your map if you have never been that far north . Inverness alone is 120 miles and no motorways ! Aberdeen is usually an airlift job .

Will anyone ‘miss’ this Virus?
Surely now it’s out there and travelling everyone will get it to some degree.
Some people may become carriers and never actually show symptoms so they will pass it on to areas that had escaped it originally.

This went out on FB last night.......

I don't know how you came to that conclusion. All the advice I have seen, including what was actually said in the briefing, was that we should avoid ALL non-essential travel.

I understand that one of the scientific or medical advisors has confirmed today that it includes all travel by road, whether using public or private transport.

To me, the reasons are obvious as the intention is to avoid interaction and cross infection risk between different communities, even at a local level, but it does seem that many people are having a hard time understanding this. The more effectively we can do this, the greater chance we have of minimising the overload to our NHS in due course.

Individual decisions made now will influence the position we find ourselves in within the very near future, but be under no illusion that if we can all minimise things as much as possible now, the Imperial College modelling suggests that as well as there being insufficient NHS capacity for coronavirus patients, there will likely be a period of time when there will be absolutely zero emergency assistance or hospital intervention for any other emergency illnesses or accidents, such as heart attacks, road traffic injuries etc.

The risk of road traffic injuries and their drain on NHS resources at this time is likely to also be a consideration.

That is currently the situation in parts of Italy, but they also have between 25% to 50% greater ICU and hospital capacity per head of population than we do.

There is more to this than JUST C-V19. There are many, my sister is one, who are already on the verge of a breakdown. Her "release" if you like, is her Gym, Her Salsa class, and her half day in the Charity shop. To-day she has been told ALL this is stopped. She in now confined to a tiny sheltered flat with her Husband who has early stage dementure and exhibits bouts of aggression as part of this illness!.

Taking "time out" without being in crowds etc; is going to be needed. IMV, Staring at the same 4 walls for 12 or 18 weeks as may happen is a form of CRUELTY. The prison service Banned "Solitary" years ago as being cruel!.

We should all SORN our campervans as they would be used for non essential travel, Quite logical in fact

Reading other forums, motorbike and car ones as well as other Facebook groups, it seem that anyone who intended to travel in Europe is now going to Scotland.

It'll get mighty crowded if they do..

We were planning on Scotland from September through the New Year. Looking unlikely now.

It will still be there when this is all over though :)

Unfortunately it will probably end up needing the police/Army intervention to stop people heading out to the wilder less populated areas of The UK, like The highlands of Scotland.
I just wish people would listen to the health advice given, fully absorb it, and adhere to it, think of other peoples safety for a change, without needing to be told officially, or even fined.

We are not on Social media, other than Fun, so please those of you that are, spread the message, tell these morons that they are being stupid & selfish to travel anywhere outside their locality at this time.
Essential journeys only, does not mean touring holidays.
Many Thanks

It's a fairly typical "the rules" are for others, not me attitude prevalent in modern Britain.

Just stay put for 12 weeks.

Not much chance of that I fear without enforcement.
