Hi, we are going to Amsterdam for a few days next week.
Can anyone recommend things to do, restaurants to visit, etc, please?
Thanks.

Avoid those small b& b places with the red lights in the window, quite cheap but you have to be in and out in 20 minutes.
Do you speak from personal experience?;)

If looking at hundreds of painting of a sunflower is your thing go to the Van Gogh gallery.:)

Anne Frank museum worth a visit.

There's two sex museums, one in Damrak 18 and one along the canal in ouldkerke (though this is smaller and may now be closed) which are quite entertaining. The Rijksmuseum and Van Gogh are well worth while but queues can be long, first thing Sunday morning before the coaches get in is best.
And don't try to drive anywhere in the city centre, it's mad with bikes trams all of which have right of way. If you haven't got a bike then hire is quite cheap, most of the bikes are pretty crap but there's no hills so they work fine there.

Daughter in law got a right earful for not knowing the rules of the red light area !!!!!

But it’s a must to go lookie see. I love Amsterdam, been now 4 times, hated it first time round. Have to make a visit to red light district, why I dont have a clue. I like the flower market. Hate the smell of the “cafe”. But from all accounts they’re not supposed to serve foreign clientele anymore. As I say, each to their own, just not my thing. There is loads of walking, however you can buy weekly tickets for the trams, which are very reliable and worth the cost. I think these tickets cover for a few other things too, but do check that out. The museums are good, as previously said the Rembrandts have to be seen, what I call art, however, my hubby like the modern art museum but I couldn’t get out of there quick enough- painted girders ain’t my thing. Anyway enjoy

Go on the water ferries at the back of the station to the A’dam tower and the fab trendy cafes there - they have live music and vending machines that sell flowers!! . It is on the same side of the water as the Motorhome park.

Just remembered Febo, little vending cafes that sell packets of chips covered in mayo. Heaven !!

Another recommendation for Rijksmuseum and to see the Nightwatch.

Do not attempt to drive anywhere near the centre, especially in a motorhome. I have taken a van in to the centre and it was not fun.
Local cycle everywhere or take the tram / underground both of which are very good. Cycle theft is a problem so make sure you have a very good lock especially if you have a good bike. People can send 1/2 the cost of a bike on a lock so you see a lot of "cheap" bikes.

Canal trips are very good, ideally go for one of boats that only takes 10 people as they can go to the smally canals, but not good if it rains.

Some suggestions. All a matter of personal preference of course
When at City Camp I go to

If you like the Rijksmuseum you should like here

3 weeks ago, avoiding tourist places, I ate at and enjoyed here

I like Amsterdam very much and try to go a couple of times a year.

Thank you very much for all the helpful (and occasionally not so helpful) ideas. We will definitely follow up on some of them next week.
Thank you to Addoaddo for the info about bike thefts - we do have two fairly expensive Volt e-bikes and so we will probably go in to Amsterdam by public transport now.

Take a canal trip from near Central Station, will give you an idea of the place.
Big queues at Anne Frank so be early or late.
Use public transport and it’s easy to get around but as others have said be prepared for serious walking.

Fantastic - thanks for the advice about the indian restaurant, we will definitely go there.
