Does anyone have any up to date information about parking by the canal there, please? The reports I read seem to imply that people are being moved on, but I wonder if they might have been at the boat lift, rather than in a bight in the large Canal du Centre just north of the Port de Plaisance. Thanks.

Interested as we are heading that way, on the 21st hoping to stop over at the old boat lift.

A recent comment on park4night says the carpark on the Theiu side has been renovated and spaces for MH marked out, only a few though. We last stayed at the dockside past the port offices, with no problems in Oct 2022.
There are a few other smallish carparks marked on p4n.

I was hoping to overnight at 50.4713750, 4.0897223, opposite the town of Thieu. I think (am hoping) that those who claim to have been moved on were parked at the boat lift at Strepy-Thieu (and had just shortened the place name to Thieu).

Mr Sandman won’t be happy if they have stopped parking near the old boat lift as he had a good bit of business from campers🤔🤔🤔😋😋

Good morning, all. Riverbankannie, Mister Google isn’t very helpful in tying to identify the Harbour Offices. Could you point them out to me, please?

CoastalCruiser is the 'parking by the old boat lift' the area I referred to with my lat/long, or is there somewhere else I can’t see on the maps.

The reason I'm trying to get as much specific information as I can is that I am trying to decide whether I should plan to overnight near Roubaix, or Tournai, or press on a bit eastward past Mons after a mid-afternoon (late for us) arrival in Calais.

These coordinates are where I meant. It is where we stayed last even though I had read some people moved on. Thieu is on one side of canal and Strepy the other. The new boat lift a bit further away from both villages and you definitely cannot overnight there and that is where I suspected people moved on from.
Last time we stayed there was a village walking event and many cars came for the evening/after dark walk. No one indicated that we should not be there.
Probably not port office but there is some sort of official building there when you drive off the road to the dockside.

We stopped there a few years ago a great spot but since then I have read a few reports of the Mayor occasionally having a hissy fit and getting every one moved on.
Chances are you will be OK so worth the risk.

enough to know i shouldnt touch things i know nothing about ....
i would def go there and park alongside the quay/canal wall, in between the canals, NOT in the boat lift car park. Drive past the boat lift car park over the bridge and take an immediate right turn, down the slope and park alongside the quay, BUT just have a back up just in case, which is always a useful way of ad hoc travelling anyway .....

Not sure with that but it’s next to the old boat lift and well away from the new one.
We have been here a few times and it’s a good stop with a 10 min walk to some supermarkets.
