They don't make em like this any more

£200K in 1992 a quick google says in todays money thats just over £400k, on that comparison would you get more for your money today ?

do you have any experience of the Auto-Clutch system please?
Broken Link Removed

Had it on my last motorhome, worked just like an automatic in stop start motorway jams, foot on brake and clutch goes in, select gear, foot off brake and it goes to biting point, foot on the loud peddle and engages and of it goes, brake and clutch in again no need to move the gear lever in this sort of driving. Yes you have to use the gear stick with a switch on it to operate the clutch during normal driving. Great at hill starts also. Will be getting one fitted in the latest motorhome shortly.

I think you would be spending that or more to get a van today built to the same standards, into Vario-Mobil territory.

Our was 450,000 euros in 2003. just over £300k at the then rates.

They re a real bargain these days, enjoy while we can :giggle:
Are you sure about that Jon? I have the 4 cylinder one at under €200k before the options.

I'm questioning myself but fairly sure I have the original invoice somewhere, I also have where the guy I bought it from paid 226k 2 years later (ouch). Its the options that add up Martin and don't forget the original purchaser ticked every box going, 6 cylinder, retarder, air all round, coach mirrors, air seats, LPG genny, Efoy, jacks, 2nd diesel tank, alloy wheels + spare, satelite system with 2 tvs, "telephone", higher trim packs, 2 x roof aircon, front truma as well as Alde with heat exchangers. Inverter was built in with changeover, N&B solar. I can't think of anything that was then available that this thing hasnt got.

They re out there people.

Sounds a bit Heath Robinson to me ;)

Looks nicely done up; but if I remember right, Mercedes trucks and vans of the early 1990s had such large steering wheels you needed arms the length of an orangutan's and had the uphill pulling power of an asthmatic flea.

I would love one and swap my Hymer for one in a heartbeat 💓 but they are just to big for up here in Scotland’s highlands 🥲

Depends what you drove, the vans could be a bit ponderous but the 814 was a good truck and this is probably the 817 so even more. There are a couple of serious ommissions in the listing. which engine and the actual dimensions because it probably isnt that big but yes at 2500mm ( I think) width its probably a little challenging in the highlands.

It says 817 in the title jongood, price and spec here

Most likely L800E, 8.1m and 2.46 wide here
Oh yes in the title - it took me several goes to spot it

Looking at the spec its showing MAN 290 HOCL as a chassis option. I think that is the underfloor mid engine version,AndyVW ? what a fabulous base for a mh but its always going to be big.
