Bessacarr motorhome has stopped flushing. no response when pressing button. according to the manual it shares a fuse (fuse 8) with the water pump, which is still working, so that suggests its not as simple as a fuse sadly. seized pump? is there another fuse in the toilet itself?
its not fozen as its a balmy 10 deg C here.
any thoughts?
manual is not much help - i think we have C402

A small jug of water does the same job until you can fix it

Do you have a pressure or micro switched water system?
Is the pump running when you press the switch.?

A couple of things to check:
Is the solinoid working when you press the switch?
Is the non return valve working properly.?

It usually has its own fuse, take the cassette out and strain yourself into an unnatural position and you should be able to see it.
I think that is only on vans where the cassette has a built in pump & water tank, most Motorhomes the water is fed from the main tank.

Does the water pump still work? If you turn on a tap, does water come out normally?

If you press the flush switch, can you hear the pump working?

You can check if it's just the push switch/wiring by the following. Turn on a tap, but turn the tap down so not much flow comes out. Then press the flush switch. Does the flush show signs of working? If it does, then the wire from the switch to the pump is faulty.

If it's the model with it's own built in water cistern, my friend's Swift had a similar problem and we had to change a miniature circuit board behind the flush button.
edit Rob99
just found the thread and it's a Bailey too, not a Swift.

My son's 5 years old pump (in the cistern) stopped working. After fitting a new one (simple ten minute job) and purely out of interest I cut the old one open...........rusted solid.

Suggest Free impeller as per previous poster said. Two very helpful videos on Youtube, but getting the pump out of the cistern part requires headtorch (to see what you're not getting hold of), small pointed bradawl or screwdriver - and most of all an arm jointed in four places!

We have a cassette type toilet and there is a fuse on the left hand side where the cassette pushes into yours may have blown. Worth a look

Does the flush light work? If it stays on it is more than likely the reed switch or the little fuse in the cassette bay, if there’s no lights its probably the main fuse which might not be shared with the water pump, (although it normally is) It could also be the little pcb (reed switch) at the back of the cassette chamber which would leave the light on permanently if the magnet in the lift float wasn’t connecting, although I think it would still flush though!

On ours, which used the main pump for the flush, the PCB used to fall off the back of the button :(

Rob99 have you managed to get it sorted? always nice to know so that when someone else searches the same problem there is an answer (y)

Or the flush started working while under there.
When working a problem out on MHF it is always best to list everything you see or tried.
A bit like going to the on line doctor.

Yes, good people, I am still here. From the consensus of wisdom on here it sounds like the best move is to have a look at the fuse in the toilet cassette. that i will do when it stops raining. unfortunately my wife has parked the van right up against a brick wall so i would need to move it to get the toilet cassette out. This involves removing multiple wheel clamps etc which is a bit tedious......so i will wait until i am moving it anyway...

In response to other suggestions...
- this vehicle has its own flush tank and pump so there is no connection between this and the main pump apart from a shared fuse which we have established is NOT blown

thanks for help - will repost when i have more intel

Not having a motorhome I may be well off the mark here but might be worth a look? I had a similar problem in my caravan and I was told to peel back the sticker/ button on the top of the toilet to expose a PC board there which is the button? Pulled out the connection plugs and gave a bit of a clean put it all back together and worked ok you can also check the voltage there as well?? But as i say motorhome toilets may differ from caravans but might be worth a look

Hello people.
The result is in. Angusboy and Smick's diagnosis was correct. The impeller in the pump was jammed and just needed a bit of manual turning to get it working. PCB was ok, Fuse was OK, power supply was ok. There are a few youtube videos online, I watched this one and it really helped to see a dry run done by someone else so i knew what to expect. The thetford manual and FAQs where not helpful at all !
Getting the pump out was not easy. Its buried away deep inside and attached to a very stiff pipe. You cannot see inside becasue of the angle. As someone pointed out you need to be double jointed and it helps if you have relatively small hands. Getting it back in was just as hard. A job for a gynocologist I would say.
I am glad I plucked up the courage to do this ....it probably would have cost £60 plus a load of hassle at my local motorhome garage. Its bound to happen again as well.
Lesson learned.....go easy on the pink. Things were pretty slimey in there !

Just to say found this thread useful. Fixed toilet flush as per the video suggested, although I could do with smaller hands with more joints. Thanks

Best to avoid joints when working on the van. Save it to relax with when the job is done😄
