I managed to accidentally turn my fridge off yesterday, didn't realise till this morning. Any how I whack it up to full (on gas) and went to work this morning. When I came home it was running, the gas went off about an hour ago and has just come back on, I haven't opened the door. Is this to soon, I'm sure it didn't come on this often before.

Any ideas?

Doesn't sound like a problem. Open the door and see if it's cold.

Though my fridge is not Thetford it doesn't work very efficiently if turned up full, try about half way.

Sorry, I should have said I'd turned it down since coming home from work. It's still running now, over an hour after it started.

Edit: opened the door and it's cold but still running.

This time of year they do tend to come on quite a lot.. Have you got winter covers on the vents ?

No winter covers.

It's still running now, hasn't stopped since I started this thread at 18:30.

Have you been standing there an hour listening to it, they do fire up quite often.

I'm sat no more than five feet away from it and haven't been out since I got home from work.
Try partially blocking the vents with some cardboard... maybe the heat exchanger is not getting warm enough.. about 2/3rds to 3/4s blocked is about right

Have you a thermometer you can put in the freezer compartment to check the temperature.

How’s the fridge going Eggs?

It was still running when I was ready for bed at 12:30 so I turned it off.

I've got to go and look at a job then I'll ring Thetford to see if they can shine any light on it.

Fridge and Freezer are definitely working, just won't shut down.

It seems illogical I know, but the condenser (I think) part of the fridge system has to get up to a reasonable temperature (i.e. quite warm) for it to work properly. That's why in outside temperatures of below 8°C the manufacturers advise fitting the vent covers. If it can't get warm enough to allow proper operation (sounds stupid doesn't it?) then the sensor will keep demanding more cooling so the burner will light up again. Having the temperature set too low only exacerbates the problem.

Cover the vents (but don't block them completely, that'll definitely kill something, maybe you), turn the fridge temperature setting down to one bar, which is quite cold enough this time of year, and let it run.

I still haven't got my head properly around the physics involved but it has been explained on here before so I accept it. And it works (well, for me anyway).

In conclusion, IMO there's nothing wrong with your fridge.

You could be on to something Terry, I've just turned it down to one and it shut down, let's see what happens next time it fires up!
