Does the standard cassette insert both right and left?

No there tends to be two types. It will say left or right.

Really? Nothing obvious on various websites, just that new ones (refresher kit) come with wheels and a different handle, which doesn't always fit. Looks like there may be different variants of the C200 though.

Just bought a new cassette and it fits left and right, you just follow the instructions and undo a couple of screws that’s all. It’s cheaper if you buy the refresher kit which includes a new seat. Just realised that mine is the c400

If it’s a c200 it’s a c200 lol . There isn’t a C200 left and a C200 right . They all fit the same

Same here - just bought a spare cassette for a Thetford C500 and thought they'd sent me the wrong one. Then I decided to read the the instruction that came with it .... yep - fits left or right with a quick flip round of the shutter mechanism.
