Does anyone recommend an online shop where I can order a RIGHT hand Thetford C500 cassette. (and be sure I get RIGHT Hand).

All of the sites I have found just want to sell me a cassette (or freshjup set), but do not specify right or left hand.

(and left hand seems to be the default!)

I bought one of these: C500 Fresh Up set - and thought they'd sent me the wrong one - in fact you can switch the centre opening around depending on whether you need the left or right set-up - instructions came the box.

I was under the impression that the C500 cassettes themselves weren't handed, only the toilet itself. I thought it was only the older C2/C3/C4 that had to be the right version. I'm probably wrong, though!

Just looked at their brochure, they appear to sell

C200 (one version)
C220 (one version)
C250/C260 (one version)
C2/C3/4 (left or right versions)
C400 (one version)
C500 (regular or "Hobby/Fendt" versions)

I guess Hobby has a special modification for some reason, possibly something to do with the level meter.

You are right that the basic cassette can be used right hand or left hand. but the integral 'mechanism' is either right or left handed and I don't want the hassle (and expense) of changing the mechanism.

I have got a new C500 fresh-up set from CAK Tanks. It says 'Left Hand' on the box. The website did not say that and now they are not answering my email.

So a recommendation of where I can get a 'Right Hand' one would be good.

All I'm saying is that Thetford doesn't list such an item, so I suspect you won't find one sold. Much like a fridge, it comes with the hinge on the side they feel like and you have to get the screwdriver out to swap it over. I've never used a C500, so can't say how easy it is to swap, but you seem to be suggesting that it needs other parts, which seems a bit strange, unless you have a mismatch between "Hobby/Fendt" and "regular".

It’s a very simple job to change it if it arrives wrong handed, mine is right handed but the refresher kit that I ordered came with it set for a left handed one but that’s how they sell them now so you don’t have a choice

I will need to investigate that after the weekend with the tank I already have. Thank You.

But the good news is: Google has found a website (LeisureLines.net) which advertises both the Left Hand and Right Hand base tanks.

So if I fail to change the tank I have, then I will be good to go.

I had the same issue, the Hobby one just comes with a different colour seat.

To change the left to right and vice versa, all you do is take out the opening mechanism by twisting the whole thing, rotate 180 degrees and refit it back into the cassette.

Thank you all for your replies.

My first point is to say that my post was about the C500 tank. The C5 in the title was a non-editable serious typo.

Having owned up to that I can now say that the C500 tank is reversible left to right. A simple job as you said.

In any case, I now know that I can replace just the tank mechanism. No need to buy the whole tank.

Whilst researching this I also found a statement from Thetford that if yoou sit down to do all the required bodily functions (inluding the flush) then the weight of the body presses all the seals together stopping any leaks!!

It works! So perhaps, I will not need to order a new tank for 2022.
