My Thetford C2 blade is stiff and often doesn't open fully, I have removed and checked the cassette and there is no problem with that, it works fine. As I have arthritic fingers I find it difficult to operate.
Has anyone changed the mechanism on one of these? they are still available and not too bad price wise. Should I also change the turning Knob that is turning the mechanism ?

May have some paper or gunge jamed in it. Take the mechanism out and give a good clean with citric acid or white wine vinegar & hot water solution.

Thanks Lenny HB, Any tips on how to remove the mechanism, do I take the knob out first then remove some screws inside the cassette housing? never done this before
Thanks for any help

A good spray of silicone took mine from stiff, to so easy to open that it whipped open on its first use, breaking a part inside 🤬🤬🤬🤬

So try some silicone spray on all moving parts. Then GENTLY try it 👍🏻👍🏻

I think on the C2 take the slide out above the flap and there are 6 screws that hold it in. If it's the newer type they just rotate about 30° and lift out, you will need a length of timber as a lever they are very tight.

When you take out the cassette, look inside the locker and upwards..
On mine there was a "saddle" that often came loose and the centre screw just needed tightening. Sometimes they can become out of line and jams the operation..

Invest in some Silicon grease, better than the spray as that wears off quickly.
