The plan is to wander around Norway.

I think we have decided to skip Denmark on the way to Norway. We really want to have two or three weeks there and don't want to rush through. Instead we are thinking of booking the Travemunde to Trelleborg overnight ferry. We can do a big Lidl shop in Travemunde and put things in the freezer because you can plug the van in on the crossing to keep the fridge running.

There a couple of days up the west coast of Sweden to Oslo.

Might see you there. We are doing similar from June 1st to July 31st (might come back early depending on how it's going. We've booked the Hirtshals to Kristiansand ferry. to

The very vague plan is to drive from Calais up to Hirtshals over about 5 days. Then in Norway we will do a little of the south and then take the fast road up toward Trondhiem. Want to be as far north as possible on midsummers day but probably won't go further north than Trondhiem. Will do Lofoten and other islands Then we will wander south on the west coast road.

Intend coming back via Sweden to do Copenhagen and then might do a bit of Denmark depending on time.

A quick update.

I applied for a Flyt toll tag last Monday and it arrived yesterday. Fairly impressive given it takes longer to get some things in the UK.

Need to work out how to link it to the ferry pass now. Thats a job for tomorrow.

I need to get on to this soon. Good to hear it was quick.

This was the ferry we used although it was a daytime one, ferry was one of the best we’ve been on as it had a sauna and hot tub. There’s also a Stelplatz just a 10 minute drive from the ferry port at Travmunde, we got lucky as the night we stayed was market night which was decent. We then drove to Malmo and had a wander round the city before catching the train to Copenhagen for a day out the following day.

Our rough plan is similar... Hook of Holland to Travemunde (well this bit is very different). Up to Oslo taking two or three days, then after a poke around Oslo for a few days get up to Lofoton by a fairly direct route. So that we can spend time wandering back down along the coast.

From Milton Keynes, wouldn't it be better to do Harwich to the Hook. Save the drive to Dover then back up to Holland.

I have done that route/crossing many years ago in the car.

Distance to Dover is about the same as Harwich. Harwich - Hook of Holland takes a lot longer and the crossing is more expensive.

Yes the distance on the otherside is further via Calais but I did the calculations and it was cheaper and quicker overall.

I was surprised at the cost of Harwich to Hook, £261 return for a daytime crossing. Our vehicle is roughly 7.6m with the bike rack. We thought that was a pretty good price.

Irish ferries - Dover Calais cost me £317 - economy out and flexi back.

The same dates and tickets on Harwich - Hook of Holland are £436. Plus its a very long crossing at 6 -7 hours.

7.5 metre van.

I was surprised especially as the price of £261 is flexi. We booked in December which is unusual for us. I was costing out the trip and then thought the price was so good I’d grab it anyway. It looks like we got a good deal.

It is a long crossing but we felt quicker than than the extra time from Calais, plus of course you use less fuel. Not enough to cover the difference, but it just felt easier to us.

But if it works for you we are all happy.

Probably the reason. I must admit I was a little late this time as we had been travelling Oct - January (non motorhome) plus our daughter was having first baby in Feburary so we hadn't really commited to any plans until March.

It is a good price as £260 economy (not flexi) is about as good as I've ever got on the Dover to Calais crossing.

Yes I think I got flexi due to some deal with the CMC. I bought it through them.

I have now contacted AUTOpassferje and completed an emaiked form to link the FLYT tag and get 50% discount on ferries. I had to pay 2200 NOK, about £170 as prepayment.

I doubt we will spend that much. My understanding is we will be able to get whatever balance is left as a refund.

Did you ring them or is it possible to email?

Re: Flyt. Got my Tag in the post today - very impressive, arrived in less than a week and no delivery charge!

Looking at the info online and it says you get an invoice sent to your home address with a due date of 14 days later. What do you do if still travelling? Can you arrange for invoices to go to email?

Yes mine went to email. I think there is also a facility defer the invoice til you get back. Maybe it’s an account setting?

I think there were some contact set with the email. I’ll see if I can find them.
