The Hook and Hatchet Kent

crikey, thats triggered a memory from long, long ago when i was but a teenager and learning to drive around the narrow lanes of kent..
back then it was quite a quirky pub, seating was old car and aircraft seats from around the 50's and 60's i reckon they were, maybe even older, guess its changed muchly since then..
so its still there and has a campsite, live music, might just have to visit and see whats what..

.

Finally got Vlog on the Hook and Hatchet done. Great pub with campsite, free stopover with showers and toilet in winter. Very nice friendly pub and dogs allowed in pub.

Crikey! There's a blast from the past ... was one of our regular haunts nearly 50 years ago.

dryad Do you remember the Ringlestone Inn, which was run by a couple of mad women who just opened & closed when they felt like it and only served you if they liked you and were known to chase others off with a shotgun?
....... Or the Windmill in Hollingbourne, where a huge spider would drop down on drinkers from behind a beam above and a leg would appear down the chimney in the inglenook. (both controled from behind the bar)

who could forget the ringlestone with the two crazy sisters, knocking on the door to get a drink and them coming with their shotguns and firing over your head if they really didn't like you..

went back a few years ago, nothing like it used to be of course, there were certainly some characters around in them days icantremember

never ever went in the windmill, actually i don't remember it at all, wonder why i don't, wish i had though, sounds like it was fun..

and then of course there was the roebuck cafe further down the A20 where the bikers went and another over at wateringbury that i can't remember the name of at the moment and then johnsons of course up towards brands hatch..

better stop with all this remembering and side tracking this thread, but wish i could go back just for a week or two and relive those days for real again..

There where a number of us apprentices that went.

Just had a look at their website, no sign of any free camping now. Still looks an ok place pre or post Channel tunnel use.

The H&H is a great pub, good food and lovely friendly atmosphere.

For those that know the area, sadly the 11th Century pub "The Dirty Habit" at the bottom of Hollingbourne Hill, on the Pilgrims Way, had an awful fire at the end of last year, and will be closed for a while. Fortunately no-one was injured.

Here is the link to the Hook & Hatchet pub & campsite booking.
And Here is the link to the location.

Hucking is between Maidstone (M20) and Sittingbourne (M2) in Kent and an hour from Dover via either motorway

There you go again jogging the old memories ... I was a member of the North Downs Motorcycle Club which used to meet regularly at the Roebuck Inn.....
These of Dereck Minter with his manx Norton were taken there around 1980
