Used to love the Algarve when we regularly went there years ago. Brother had a house out there and it was a regular holiday for us.
Returned in the van last year for the first time in perhaps 20 yrs.
What a disappointment, very over developed and crowded with very busy roads. Hardly recognisable from the quiet places we used to know so well.
Up in the hills though and it is a very different place. Quite like the Portugal we used to know.
I'm sure there are pleasant parts of the Algarve if you search them out but I won't be looking when/if we return to Portugal early next year.
Will be heading for the hills. :):)

Campsites in the Algarve vary a lot as do the towns and villages. Most campsites have a good snowbird community who will point you in the right direction for what you need. Many people tour a bit before picking a site. Going just a few miles away from the coast gets you away from the tourist brashness and there are places to stop at both wild camping and more formal sites.
