Has anyone found an insurance company, apart from the NFU who seem to want you to have two sets of insurance with them before they let you join, that I can use that doesn't have the £3000 limit on Europe glass claims. I am sure that my Laika A Class will be over that so looking for a bigger limit or preferably unlimited.

Check the price with a dealer for your windscreen. It might be sufficient.

Its seems that NFU vary in what/who they'll take on from branch to branch. Have you tried the Chichester branch of NFU? Their cover and price was good - we haven't had to make a claim but, from what I hear, they're fair.

I didn't understand the bit about NFU wanting you to have two sets of insurance?

Normally with NFU windscreen cover is unlimited.
Comfort is unlimited providing you use Autoglass otherwise £3000, I think Safeguard is unlimited.

Problem is that its only unlimited in the UK and only if you use auto glass. If you travel outside of the UK then you’re limited to a maximum of £3000.

I don't think NFU differentiate between UK and european cover.

I had a stand alone NFU policy on my motorhome, I have now added a second vehicle to the policy but that was my choice. Try a different NFU office, they are franchised and some are far more helpful than others. I use the Brockenhurst one 01590 624744 and Chichester has already been mentioned.

That’s exactly right which is why I would like to go with the NFU. I have a car to insure by the end of the month as well so might swap insurance to go with NFU for this one as well so as to get round their Insistence on being an existing customer.

I also like that NFU allow you to use a windscreen supplier of you choice, not just their nominated one. You have to pay a little more on the excess if you use someone else but it keeps your options open.

Try the Chichester branch of NFU

I got a quote from Salisbury branch without another vehicle it’s good cover
Very but very expensive.(y)(y)(y)

I have stuck with Safeguard in recent years , although not the cheapest , when I last checked there are less restrictions on the policy regarding windscreens and rescue.

heres a post I made last week with regards to insurance and some excuses they gave.

I’m just in the process of renewing ours and so far it’s been a right pain in the arse.
One company (comfort)will not insure unless tracker fitted (already have strikeback and non starter) the next (Caravan Guard)won’t insure because van parked on drive the said they would only insure if in secure storage facility.( don’t think there are any close to us) and anyway we want to be using our van. The next one (NFU)want £998 + to insure no breakdown as over 3500kg, and stipulate a minimum of £550 excess as it is a self import??? What’s that all about.
I am still awaiting (Safeguards)renewal quote so not holding my breath there?
And finally (Adrian Flux)quoted £735 with breakdown and 90 days + EU travel but only £1000 windscreen cover.
I’m beginning to think that they don’t want to insure anything over £86000 value.
And by the way I have six years no claims and live in a reasonable post code area.

Have you tried the Camping & Caravanning club? Got a quote from them last year for a van we were thinking of buying for about £80k. No tracker subscription required and our quote was around £400.
In the end we bought a similar van here in France.

Silly prices and restrictions are simply an excuse because some NFU Franchisees don't want the bother but there are other branches that will be happy to get your business.

I had my house insurance with NFU and as I regularly had to visit the business next door to the NFU office, I always deal with them in person. When I was getting my first MH I went in the NFU office and asked for a quote, sure they said but a couple of minutes later came back and said "no can do as you are not insuring your car with us". Well a couple of months later when my home insure was due for renewal I made a point of going into their office with my renewal notice and said "I can't insure my house with you as your not insuring my MH". The two people I usually dealt with just smiled.
I have had no dealing with NFU for the passed seven years.

Wow so big quotes in there - Try AIB . My A Class is valued at £98K I have 1 years NCD and last year when it was new I did well with a premium of £355 ( with AIB ) , this year its gone up to £380 with AIB again but with the £3k limit windcreen problem in it . Ive had a quote last week from Comfort and that came in at £350 but again with the £3k limit windcreen problem. Im now waiting for NFU to come back with van and home insurance quotes but im not holding by breath.

NFU have come back with home insurance which is three times what I paying now and the van insurance at £1250 - Im at a loss to see how they are in still in business .

£2,400 for the screen delivered to the UK but not fitted so Im guessing it would be around the £3k fitted in the UK but more in mainland Europe

I am paying £276 for my NFU insurance on 2015 Hymer Mli 580, value £62,000. Try a different office, that one clearly doesn't want your business.

When I tried AIB the premium doubled for a personal import.

I am also paying less than 3hundred at NFU and had a side window broke in Germany couple of years ago and they did everything with just a phone call I know it's not in your windscreen league but don't think anything would be different.

Problem is because of the high value they have to contact their central underwriters in Bristol so calling a different office for local discretion doesn't work in this case - I tried two offices. The trigger point I think is around £75k.

I think you might be right. I think most of the time I'd put up with a crack till I got back to the UK.

Comfort doesn't have a limit as long as you use Autoglass in the UK or Europe, (apparently Autoglass have partners everywhere). If you don't use Autoglass then its a max of £3000.
