Thanks the lord for Brittany ferries we travel to Santander on Tuesday and took the dogs to our usual vets for the AHC. £135 and we got 13 pages for them to enter Spain .
Sent them off to Brittany ferries who offer a free check prior to departure. They replied within the hour to highlight four mistakes that needed correcting. back to the vets and quickly sorted.
All sorted now and we can relax and pack the motorhome. We have sorted out a EU pet passport x 2 for 3 years with Rabies vaccination for €102 for 2 dogs.

Pet passports are no longer valid so it’s the rather complicated animal health certificate that has to be obtained for each entry to the EU zone.

Yes some vets are doing EU passports even though you need a eu residence and it last 3 years. However you want a 3 year rabies jab

You simply email a copy and they check for any mistakes and then email back with the information to be amended etc.

Having had a EU/Spanish Pet Passport for ten years it is my understanding that am Rabies jab is required each year.

Not anymore you can get a jab that lasts for 3 years, the jab has to be in the country of issue

Depends on the region.Here in Murcia it is legally required for dogs ,cats & ferrets every year.

We are Andalucia of which we will be back to in a couple of days,the jabs due in March so will check it out.

The vet puts that information into the pet passport when they give the vaccination to the animal.

Hi bobandfay, heading to Los Narejos in two weeks from U.K., which vet did you use? The one at the end of the market? We actually use the one down past Mercadonna on the Lidl road. Did they need you to provide a local address other than the campsite? Any info would be welcomed thanks in advance. Julie P

She speaks good English you need to take the dogs old passport and your passport for proof of ID

There aren't different strengths. It is the same vaccine just with different expiry dates.

The EU pet passport lasts until it's full, not 3 years. But you're right about the rabies vaccination- some vets in France and a lot in Spain will give a 1 year rabies vaccination rather than 3 so you do need to check that. Last time I checked, Spain insisted on yearly rabies vaccs but that could have changed.

Yes that's a great service from Brittany Ferries. Unfortunately we broke down on our way to Portsmouth so had to reschedule our trip. Brittany Ferries were excellent with the reschedule. However we decided to use the free EHC check on our now redundant certificate and they pointed out x3 errors which our vet has accepted, so we are all set for our second attempt.

That’s a blow hope it wasn’t anything too serious with the breakdown, there is a lot of criticism of the vets with completing the form, having looked at it ourselves it’s a minefield and with little or no training to assist them. An excellent free service from BF.

Can I ask has anyone successfully returned to the UK from Europe using their EU pet passport? We got a French one last summer for our dog and were told at the Eurotunnel on the way back to the UK that we still needed the AHC.

We got an Irish pet passport last year (nice trip around Ireland included), we went to Spain via France in December with no issues. We visited the vet in France and she added a 3 year Rabies booster as the original jabs were due to expire.
We called at the vets on the way back in Jan for the tablets and she administered these, signed the passports.
Off to P&O ferries and we showed the passports and everything was fine, no comments, no questions, away you go!

No AHC needed if you have an EU issued passport.

Re-booked to travel from Portsmouth to Caen, as we couldn't get on another Santander until after April. Need a dog friendly cabin also. Travel on 27th February. The breakdown was an unpredictable water pump seizure. Excellent breakdown cover from my Nationwide account, and my local garage is really good. Can't even trust the main Fiat dealer. So all is well, as we prepare to try again.
