on monday 15th july had a letter supposedly from HM REVENUE debt agency demanding £5703.92p and it looked almost genuine at first glance when l picked myself up off the floor l checked the post code because it had an x in it BX9 1QH as an ex subpostmaster l did,nt think that there was a district with an x checked online NO such code so it,s a scam

I’ve had texts, usually saying you are due a refund from HMRC ( I should be so lucky!) but never a letter. Thanks for the heads up.
Though I have found this online https://www.proactive.uk.net/?p=2349
It’s easy to get through on the phone ( usually) so you could check with them.

thanks for thread they are using a 0300 number to call but anyone can rent a 0300 number for 99p per month they make their money by having someone call their number

Common scan these days, they dig quite a bit of money out of the panicked :(.

Someone even got caught as they were expecting a call from the taxman and a scammer called up first - so be careful!!

Remember all payments should be to the well known HMRC banks accounts and reference known tax codes you have been given, you stand a lot more chance of getting your money back from HMRC if you panic but pay them the extra :)

Also after any phone call dial up a friend or relative to check they put the phone down, BEFORE attempting to dial the official HMRC number you get from your independent internet search.

And finally with HMRC there is no panic. All they will do it charge you interest and light fines for late payment and you have the option to go to court, all things that ensure you are genuinely paying HMRC instead of HM Nigeria.

they will be very lucky if they get money out of me (from a funsters quote which l thought fantastic "l started out with nothing and l,ve got most of it left")

It would appear that there are BX post codes... could they be a postal system such as those used by legal firms?

From the Gov.uk website

Courier deliveries to HMRC: PO box and BX postcodes
Post
Use this address if you’re a courier for all post items being delivered to either a closed HMRC site, a PO box or BX postcode.
Corporation Tax Services
HM Revenue and Customs
BX9 1AX

National Insurance Contributions
National Insurance Contributions and Employers Office
HM Revenue and Customs
BX9 1AN

Yes, just searched and found that they're 'special' addresses used by HMRC.

I wouldn't throw that letter away Roger - it's probably best to contact them first.

no way jose waste of money just checked yet another website regarding scams apparently they ask for your bank account number will wait for a follow up letter l don,t owe them £5703.92p l retired 15 years ago

yes there are BX codes. They are hmrc ones only & do not actually relate to an area.
